Is anyone else having problems with special cancels and enhancing your specials?

I'm going through the whole Advanced Tutorial right now and I'm on the Get Up Pressure section and I am having the worst time trying to get Scorpion's 3-3-3~Blazing Charge to come out. I've never had this problem in any other NetherRealm Studios fighting game. I've tried switching controllers, messing with the settings (enabling/disabling Release Check, changing Input Timing Window, and all the other settings) but nothing seems to work. In general, I feel like they've changed something with how you cancel into special moves, as well as making the timing of enhancing them very strict and I'm not sure it was intentional; and if it was, I'm hoping that they realize their mistake and change it back.

Between the input problems I've had and getting used to the Air Kombat and Kameo system, my first few days in Mortal Kombat 1 have not been pleasant or smooth. Have my fingers gone stupid in my old age or is everyone suffering from these issues more or less?

I think it's just way more strict about when you put the commands in. You have to hit the trigger at the same time as the last button for a special, not after like MK11. Also I think you have to time when to special cancel. For example, I had to get used to canceling out of Reptile's air 233 for the teleport during the last hit rather than just at any arbitrary point in the string.

Are u using a gamepad? Try making block a bumper button instead of a trigger button, or getting a "hair trigger" FPS controller. The time it takes to fully squeeze the trigger could be the problem.

I had the problem with the EX moves in the beta. Took awhile to get the timing right. You essentially have to input block and hold it then press whatever button it is for the special. It’s like you’re pressing them at the same time but you have to press block slightly first. Hard to explain but maybe that’ll help with the EX specials.

this definetly helps. i felt like a noob ( was never good for tym-standards, but still) as i couldn´t finish the liu kang challenges, but after trying with the fighting commander 4 i recognized that direct trigger shoulder buttons work way better.
remapping the xbox controller made it functional for me.

Wanna know something embarrassing? I've not done the tutorials yet, only played story mode (completed) and invasion (on the last mesa).

And I actually thought Enhanced Specials had been removed after pressing R1 by instinct so many times and remembering it was the kameo, and so I've just been playing without them...

But hey, it's me, so not in the least bit surprising. I have the mentality of SNES gamer with learning difficulties in 2023. But you should have seen me fight in London, I was great...

I found I have to press block almost a split second before the final input for the special. I also hold block until the amp comes out.

It's the triggers.. Switch to using a bumper. Make sure release check is off.

Or get of gamepad and join the kool kids!

I can't complete the combo tutorials lol. It's DCvMK all over again. Just going to have to resign to having them all only mostly complete.

Phew, at least it's not just me then. I still have some MK11 tutorial advanced combo ones I could never complete not matter how many times I tried (and was sure I was hitting the right buttons)... all to produce combos that were so unreliably complex I'd never use them in an actual fight ever anyway, so what's the point? I don't even like that bronze Kold War Sub Zero mask reward much as it is!

It’s not just that. I immediately changed my block button to R1 in the beta and in the full game. And I was having issues with EX’ing specials. The timing is weird, as I said, ya gotta press and hold the block button a split second before the 1, 2, 3 or 4.

But yeah, I definitely recommend switching your block button to R1 if you’re using a controller. I’ve always used R1 as block all the way back to UMK3. So I always change it to R1 in every MK game if it’s a different button.

It is better this way
I haven't been having issues with ex specials once I started putting in the input maybe twice as fast as I would in other NRS games.

I cant cancel any combo into a enhanced special most of the times. Once in a while, It works, but most of my games I end Up with combos that doesnt need a bar and using the enhanced special as stand alones attacks.

I really miss the timing on MK11. It was way easier.

So, I think switching to R1 as block has improved how often I actually get enhanced specials to come out but I'm still having a really hard time actually canceling into special moves after I perform my normal strings. No one else is having this issue?

There is another option in control settings called input duration/ time frame. You can change it to short, medium or long.
You can try what fits you more.
