Introduction of myself... Looking for tips, training, and etc. (Injustice)

Hello, name is Vixacious AKA KillshotAce on PSN. I have been playing MK9 for about 6-9 months. I was able to get really good with a few characters, understanding my limits and etc. I was able to copy combo's and reset's very easily just from watching people like Tom Brady, Perfect Legend and others from EVO Civil war.. (need I go on? Hell, even now as I am typing this I am listening to Tom + Pig + Reo + M2Dave's podcast about Scorpion...Oh boy.) and I was able to be "adequate" at the game. Able to smash most, and still have a chance at people who actually know what they are doing. Then, I picked up Injustice. When I first played Injustice I realized that this wasn't as "noob friendly" as most people will argue. (although this is my honest opinion) I say this only solely based on the blocking factor. (two of my friends agree on this although this may just be because of the transition of the R2 / RT block becoming back stepping / ducking)
...
ANYWAY
I decided to main my favorite "neutral" character since my childhood, Deathstroke. Now jumping into online KOTH matches, I quickly learned that Deathstroke was frowned upon in the community. Even though I never "spammed" (I call it space control) With him unless you give me a reason to. Trying my best to turn Deathstroke into a mid-tier / top-tier without spamming, I quickly learned that it is not very possible due to the limitations of a zoning character. (If you can prove me wrong on this please let me know I would love to be able to fight with my favorite character.)

So I just recently gave up on him and I'm looking for a new character to main.
My eyes went to some like Grundy, Superman, Green Arrow, The Flash to name a few. But what interested me the most was Shazam. (Why couldn't they just call him Captain Marvel?)

Shazam looks and feels amazing to play but why I am here, I was looking for some tips on resets, this blocking mechanic, and strings. Wake-up attack do's and dont's, what other options are there than to wake up attack and knowing you will get punished. and anything else you can think of for a new player that picked this game up 4 days ago.

Thank you for reading, if you did.
Advanced thanks for everyone who takes their time to help me out by replying to this.

Hit me up on PSN. I will PM you my tag.. I don't remember it off hand. Welcome!

All I'll add is screw anyone complaining about your Deathstroke. If you can spam to beat a player than why not? Why bother making an effort to change your playstyle to something they won't complain about if they can't make the effort to learn how to block-dash-repeat.

I play Lex, who is probably the worst thing to use against Deathstroke, and I do lose alot to good DS players, but I know at least it is my fault for making mistakes, and often getting impatient.

Greetings, Vixacious.
Welcome to this site of knowledge, learning, bitch-fits, and darkness, named TestYourMight.com!

There is little reason to drop Deathstroke because of online players being unwilling to beat what is giving them trouble. They give the "spam" as an excuse for their incompetance. Deathstroke may seem like a zoning character, but he has become a strange hybrid character due to the nerfing he recieved in the earlier patches. See the Ultimate Deathstroke Guide to learn more about him.

I don't know anything about Captain Marvel, but you can take a look at the stickied threads on his sub-forum.
(He is now called "Shazam" because DC Comics said so)

Neptune's Beard!!!
Welcome! I definitely see Shazam as severely underlooked. His teleport isn't perfect, but it's more than enough to get him within range of his grab attacks. That can lead to well above 30% combos. I've been on the recieving end of good Shazam! players and he can be a nightmare to fight. Takes A LOT of skill to learn and master, but it'll be well worth it. Unfortunately, I haven't studied him and only used him casually online, but damn....dat teleport. It can really throw your opponent off.

DS is cool and all, but I think you'd have a lot more fun playing as Shazam.

If you have a genuine love for your character, stick with it! DS is a viable character. Just to point out a couple things: zoning is not neutral, and DS is not a pure zoner. If you really like a character, you're lucky because that will keep you invested longer.
