Or we just let the game be the way the game is, and embrace what NRS was trying to do by making such interesting stages.

Tweaking the settings for Halo or Smash doesn't make the game not 'what it is'; it just gives you some flexibility. You aren't forced to use it and if you want to leave things at default, you can do that.
