If Quan Chi is in MKX...

Hi. I was an old, shitty Quan Chi loyalist back from when MK9 was first released. This guy is seriously the most interesting and dynamic character in the game. He is a puppet master who pulls every one's strings - from sorcerers, to Emperor Shao Kahn, even Fallen Elder God Shinnok himself. Everything Quan Chi does is ultimately to serve his own, mysterious ends.

So if he returns in MKX, what kind of character should he be?

In MK9, Quan was a mix-up/set-up/trap character that relied HEAVILY on his meter. He was a character based on successfully building meter through blocked hits and precise calculations to get the most out of your EX Runes.

In MKX, should The Rune Trap return? Should it change? Could he have a variation where his goal is to Rune Trap?

What if Runes worked more similarly to Kotal Kahn's Totems in that he could summon them and they would have different effects so long as they were on screen?

What about his other Variations?

As a necromancer, I feel like Quan could have a Variation where he summons a minion not too dissimilar from Zod's Phantom Zone beast. It makes sense that he would be able to do this, and it would be a drastic change from his gameplay in MK9.

If memory serves, I believe Quan Chi had a unique Weapons style in MK: DA that involved the use of two swords. Should that be a Variation?

What do you guys think?

Do we Rune in MKX like before?

What do you think Quan Chi of MKX should look like?

Quan Chi needs to be completely revamped. That Rune Trap thing needs to go. I'm hoping NONE of his variations play anything like his playstyle in MK9. It's like, the character broke the rules of the game, but wasn't even good either. He was the most poorly designed character in the game, imo.

Luckily, there's so much that can be done for this character, given his manipulative nature, sorcery, and necromancy, so I can't wait to see what they do with him. Also, I really hope he looks more like his MK4 form. He used to be a beefcake.

Rune trap was so cheesy. I don't think that's how he was intentionally designed but I really don't know for sure.

I hope it doesn't come back. If he's in the game I doubt he'll be as reliant on it because of the varied playstyles and the new engine.

I don't think The Rune Trap needed to go at all.
You have to understand, in order for Quan Chi to actually use it effectively, he couldn't use his meter for anything else.
Not breakers. Not X-Ray(lol), and not his armored Sky Drop.
Also, you had to KNOW the math behind the number of blocked hits and how many you needed to get the next bar of meter.
A Quan Chi main would actually have to PURPOSEFULLY lose the second round in a match in order to win the third just so he could build meter.

BUT you are right. You could do a lot more with him than Woolay EN Runes.

I know. Under_the_Mayo's tutorials were pretty essential for me. Loved Quan, but he had some big problems. Definitely want another shot with him in MKX.

Shoot them. Shoot them all.
I would have FULLY mained Quan in MK9 if only they had given him a decent wakeup. :(

1.) Definitely keep the rune trap. It was so feared and devastating and oh so sinister!
2.) Speed up his fireball.
3.)Just get rid of the teleport and give him some new specials that could improve his mobility.
4.) Make one of his variations emulate Shang Tsung ala ground/air skulls but GREEN!

Real talk...Quan Chi is returning for MKX.

Qusn Chi is alot like Little Finger from Game of Thrones.

He has no real loyalty and is just climbing the social ladder to the top by deceiving absolutely everyone.

In the MK Deception opening, Quan Chi summons a wall of green skulls to block Raiden's electric blasts.

I think this should become a real move, most likely a projectile parry. :-D

Mk9 quan is maddd , love the rune trap but he needs a 6 frame d1 and a longer reach on it , a better wake up move and less meter dependent moves , shorter recovery on woolay also and an air fire skull
making him BOSSSSSSS

I'm just not a fan of the overall design. I know Quan players had an uphill battle going for them. Not much they could have done for him in MK9, but in MKX, I really want a completely new set of moves and specials for him that don't involve unbreakable damage.

I'd like to see him use his green skulls and skeletons more, maybe a skull wall, skeleton charge, skeleton grab that functions like swamp hands.

All he really needed was some of his moves sped up like d1(down from 11 frames LOL), less recovery on whiffed teleport so he's not completely free on wake-up and string gaps closed.

Maybe a version where he summons one of the Characters which makes it not into the game (mind controlled) as a second Character which the player can control. Kinda like the idea of a Puppet Master from this thread.

They'll probably add quite a bit of different things since there will be 3 variations. Obv. he'll be included, he survived and has everyone's souls basically.

I have Quan to thank for me even going to participate in Tournament play. Had tons of fun, regardless of the outcomes (which were not all bad) and i'm looking forward to jumping back into the scene using him. Cause like the TP said, he's just one manipulative BADASS, and when you play as him you get the chance to feel that yourself =) Looking forward to it.

Never told anyone this, but if they would have given him his MK4 outfit I would have maimed him along with Sub-Zero.

Rune Trap was bad design. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Not even close.

The Rune Trap was designed on Math and precise calculations of the percentages of meter gained by number of blocked hits.
No other character in the game was designed with that in mind.

It's a thinking man's set-up.

Also, every one who tears about the Rune Trap usually forgets that:

1) The Rune Trap could be escaped if you used breaker or (unless it was just-frame timed) armor.
2) Quan Chi only had The Rune Trap and basically nothing else of note.

1) The Rune Trap could be escaped if you used breaker or (unless it was just-frame timed) armor.
This is true. There was a time I thought Rune Trap was a pain. But, a smart person would manage meter to break. Breaking Rune Trap is a double edged sword, so you'd better force Quan Chi to break once you're on the offensive; thus making a possible trap impossible.

It's a thinking man's set-up.
I don't know about that. Does almost seem like a design flaw.
