Should've stopped at that then.
Once the game is officially launched and I've played through it, I'll join the conversation about it.
Youre a garbage member. I just wanted you to have plenty of time to have that stew before I put you on ignore. You derail threads by acting so noble, like youre the only one with a correct opinion and you can determine what posts are worthy.

Jade existed in this story purely to fellate Kotal. You exist purely to fellate your self.

I always thought fighting game stories were just excuses to make the characters fight, like a toddler smashing their action figures together. People actually care about the plot and thought it would be good storytelling?
To say that this story was similar to children smashing action figures together would be accurate. Fuck me for wanting a story for adults from a game for adults, right? Damn me for wanting 2.5 hours of entertainment from a game Im gonna sink thousands of hours into. Its not the end of the day, I care more about competing, but this is literally the dumbest story Ive heard from any form of Triple A media in my life.

I fully support your statement, Dadashov.

I have a lot more to say once work is over.

Also, I don't know why it's such an unreasonable thing to expect your fighting game to have a good story.

This was retconned heartbreak personified.
Injustice 2 had a better one, and I wanted to give that game human form so I could throw it off my building by the time I was done with it.

Appreciate it
I also haven’t covered everything since I was working at the time I was writing it.

I haven't read on the entire story but I did accidentally get the ending spoiled and yeah...what? Another reset/reboot? I thought having the comic writer was going to make the story better but again it sounds like they have no foresight and wrote themselves into a corner.

Obviously we can trace this back to MKA. Whatever wingnut thought introducing that to the plot needs to go. MK9 did an ok job of dealing with it, but it had it's problems. MKX was ok but I think the 20 year time skip was a huge mistake. It was only done so the Kombat Kids could exist and be old enough to be fighters but then they came across the problem of their precious og humans getting old...and they clearly aren't ready to retire/kill them off so now they are forced to write in a reason to keep them in the game and in fighting shape even though they should be getting pretty old/tired.

I just don't know why they decided on a time travel story again. MKX left the story at a decent place. The ogs were old but not too old, the kids were old enough to be fighters, shao and shinnok are dead, the Netherrealm has two new rulers, Kotal Kahn is still in power, there are two other realms (Order & Chaos) that have barley been touched on at all, the Onaga plot had yet to be re explored...and then they decide to introduce some time woman and press restart again. I just see so many ways they could have taken the story and kept it going without needing to restart everything.

We all know how well time traveling stories usually go...a disaster. Ill post more of my thoughts after I actually see it for myself but based on the little thing I saw about the ending...yikes.

Maybe I'm the only one in agreement with you, but I did think that the story was utter trash. I haven't played it, but from the leaks and what not it's definitely not at all what NRS hyped it up to be.

And for the argument "story modes are luxuries" in fighting games, then at least make it a luxury worth playing. If you're going to put effort and time in developing a story, then at least make it worthwhile or don't include one at all. It isn't hard to make a good story for a fighting game, See Soul Calibur 6. A studio with FAR less resources managed to do a reboot without actually messing everything up.

Part of it is our expectations, I think from here on out, story modes with NRS games are going to stay trash. That is what it is at this point. But they've kept giving us trash so now we have to expect it :/ The ideas are there, just poorly executed. But like you said, other than the story, I love the game.

What the fuck was the point of making Kitana empress when you were just going to make her a fucking god of time anyway? It makes Kotal look like a bitch by giving up his title. Kotal whole goal was to unite outworld so why not have HIM do that and not Kitana. Keep 16bit out of the damn storyboard lol

After MKX, I had very low expectations for the story. It was pretty stupid, but at least it was fun and colorful, unlike MKX. All fighting game story modes should be is just action figures hitting against each other.

Oh yeah, and it turns out Cetrion really was an Injustice.

Yeah I really enjoyed the fact that Soulcalibur 6 just started everything over without adding overly complicated nonsense to try and make it "make sense." No time traveling. Nothing like that. It just stands on its own with new versions of classic characters that everyone wanted.
