How to learn/get better at blocking and punishing?

What would be the problem with having the game tell me what strings are being used in a replay function?
Nothing, but the fact that it isn't there and probably won't be there. Topic is "how to learn", not "how to remake the game if you were a dev", so what exactly are we arguing about?

I'm not having problems blocking low-high, but I am having TONS of problems punishing stuff that is a lot safer in this game.

Example: Kano's straight ball.

If you blink, you miss the punish. Also somehow I can't punish it with high moves as he does a small crouch right when he is punishable.

Just to let everyone know...... you do NOT need to release block to punish or counter poke.

Yup, unlike MK9 you can be holding block and have a normal come out. This also works for interactables. As someone is pressuring you, feel free to hold block and mash out the interactable. It will use meter however.

@CrimsonShadow
oh nice thanks. im sure mkx got lot more to discover :)

A bit confused by this.

I just tested this and no attacks will never come out when I'm holding block.

Can you clarify this?
This only happens on block when being hit by something. Not neutral block with nothing happen in. Set the AI to a character with a teleport like ermac. Have the AI teleport on you and punish it with a normal while blocking

Hold block and still punish with a normal attack? Are you trolling me right now?
Why would I be trolling ?

I set the AI to do a d2 and punish it on recovery, this gave me a feeling on how to punish.

Now when i see an unsafe string i can punish on sight, granted not perfect but i am getting the hang of it

Thank you for this. I knew it was possible with specials but not pokes/strings/interactables. This is good information to have.

Man everyone is jumping down OP throat. I think he understands he has to practice he just saying ways it could be easier for him maybe not easier for you but it would help him learn faster.
The way I've been practicing punishing is just watching what the most common strings people are using and recording the dummy in practice mode most people only use a couple strings so find them in move list and record it. It doesn't take long and you Dont have to memorize the whole move list. Everyone is right tho it won't happen overnight you have to practice they are just going about it in the wrong way
