How do you use consumable items in invasion mode?

you have to use BEFORE activing the node where you will enter the fight ..... you just pick up and use the item before the fight; once you active the fight, you see the item effect there

so , in sumary, you have to active the item while you are in the open world map, before entering the fight mode

What I am asking is HOW do you use them? What button do you press. If I press Y, it opens the character window, where I can equip things and drop things, but there are no usable items I can find. I assume I need to take them before an encounter.. but HOW do you actually do that, as in physically, how do I use the controller to do it?

On PS5 its the Square button to bring up the consumables in the map view. Then activate one of your choice.
