Match-up Discussion How do I stop superman?

I play lots of good supermen.

And he just beats the crap out of me every time.

At 3/4 of the screen and around mid screen, he is able to air dash past anything I do. Rocks, fireballs, ex fireballs, ex rocks...

In the end, he ends up in my face and does a JI2 combo.

Now, when he does that, I'm on the ground and usually in the corner. All his strings are faster and safer than mine and lead into more damaging combos, and he actually has mix ups, albeit unsafe.

So, I just end up losing all the damn time. How do you stop superman?

Sinestro can handle Superman. If he gets cute with the airdashes you need to hit him out of the air with JIP1, and once you do that, he will airdash less and open himself up to the rocks. Up close you want to use alot of F+2 D+1 and D+1 by itself. Although it is risky, you can blow up his F+2,3 with NJP 2 into full combo.

Dropping Combos like a MotherFucker!
I believe all of Superman's combos hit either (a) high/high/overhead, or (b) high/low/high. If you block his strings high/low/high every single time, you should have time to punish them. I'd double check this in practice mode, however.

Nah man, his main combos are 223 and F23 being mid mid overhead and mid mid respectively.

Ive recorded all my series thus far so ill go find some footage

IMO its 5-5

Full screen lasers are a non factor here. full screen duck his db3 and shackle or check him w rock cause usually they like to air laser a lot full screen or get in the air to dash

Build trait after every knockdown or shackles cause against superman u get 1.5 -2 bars of trait cause to hit you he has to shoot a laser or dash in which is easy to react to.

Sinestro players need to understand you can charge trait in the middle of his spamming db3 and this goes for any character in a projectile war. Sinestro can cancel out of block

I always keep a bar to push block and when he jumps mid screen i expect the air dash always so i wait a tiny bit and d2 b12 shackles into reset unblockable damage depending on the situation.

Also w every MU you should use your "charging" trait to make them say to themselves "OH **** he's charging i better get in there quick and stop him" so they dash in and you cancel out immediately and FB EM back to the corner.

Use what cowboy said as well upclose or wait it out

My problem though is not really with his zoning, any smart person knows not to try to outzone sinestro. Superman instead relies on getting in my face, and staying there. Once he gets in, I find it pretty hard to get him off. I can push block, but that pushes him back to just around the range for a F23.

I will try more tricks to do with traits though.

Also for the reset unblockable, I find that it doesn't really work if I don't have my trait. If they block the B2 high, and the arachnid they have a long time to poke out or even punish while the unblockable comes ot.

What you can do instead is at max range on block after the reset situation is b213 because most times the "1" will hit them low cause not many fuzzy it yet and either way it is safe. Also you can do a b2 and they will expect either a "1" low or a arachnid when in fact you do neither and you throw them.

It seems to me your main issue is allowing him in so frustrating him more with baited charges into FB as well as well timed d2, and boulders when he is in the air will work best. Also when he is in your face in neutral situations d1 has a longer reach and you can d1 shackles or d1 throw cause its +14 on hit and throws i think are 10 frames

Online sinestro wins. Offline supes wins. It looks like a bad match up for sinestro so far as long as the supes knows frame data

You must be facing zoning supermen or something. I can't for the life of me get a good superman off me. Sinestro doesn't have the tools. He might win against a zoner, but he can't win against one that stays in your face. And its pretty easy to get in on sinestro with an air dash.

Push block pushes him outside of f23 range. If he does f23 from that range you can b23 into any combo or just return to your zoning game.

He can add super breath to that though.

I know, f23xxdb2 is safe for superman and im using that string for testing. I've push blocked at various times in the string and they're all out of f23 range. He can flying punch and such from that range, but it'll either trade with b2 or a fireball(not sure about flying punch properties)

But pushblock seems like your best bet against a rushdown superman. Take him into training mode and practice blocking and pushblocking his safe strings

Try using d1 vs super man upclose. It seems to stop all of my strings, but then again upclose is my major weakness in any game

I do that sure. But it takes just a single F2 to go into his BnBs. D1s for sinestro are well... 2%
