I've been trying to find some kind of scene or at least meet some people around here that play fighting games.

I play MK9, BB:CS, SSF4, MvC3.

PSN: thrash242

I see. Well have you gone too smileys on Wednesday's for casuals? A lot of ppl go there. If your trying to get competitive at it just hit me up. We try to have meets and stuff.

I haven't yet, but I might check it out.

I'm definitely planning on checking out Planet Zero soon. They don't have, but they do have BB:CS2 and SSF4 Japanese arcade cabinets.

I'll be done with school for a while soon, so I'll be playing a lot more then. I'm not any good because I have no one to play with locally, so yeah, I'd like go to some meetups or whatever.

cool.. actually planet zero has a mk9 cabinet there right now... but i really dont like going there i preffer monsters arcade much cooller

Yeah, I just read that they have MK9 now. :D I'm not sure it's a cabinet, though--does MK9 even have an arcade version? I was under the impression that it didn't.

I've never been to either, but I grew up in the hey-day of arcades, so a place calling itself an "arcade" that just has consoles seems kinda lame to me. I mean, I'm sure it's a cool place, but when I found out it was just consoles, I was kinda "meh".

Plus it's closer and it has the new versions of SSF4 and BB that are only available on Japanese arcade machines right now. I've been itching to play BB:CS2 for months.

I'm trying to get a scene going for the game. I demoed the game yesterday with others at Smiley's Sports Bar and had a pretty positive reception. Hopefully people will start picking it up. :china:

As of right now, these are your options to play the game with other people:

Tuesday: Monster's Arcade Scrub Tuesdays (7PM-whenever)

Wednesday: Smiley's Sports Bar (7PM-1AM)

Thursday: Planet Zero Anime Center (SSF4 weeklies, but most of the regular FG players show up on this day, so you have a chance to play one of us in MK, you can play any day except Monday at your leisure).

PZ's setup uses a dual-panel Vewlix cabinet which works like an arcade machine but has a console inside with the game. Works well enough. Only uses the Vewlix stick and buttons though, no pad.

I play online quite a bit lately so you can hit me up on my gamertag (Four Wude), and if someone wants to organize a session we'll see what we can do.

I'm definitely going to PZ as soon as school is over. They have all the fighting games I like up there now. :D

In fact, I'll probably be up there next Thursday because finals will be over by then. Maybe I'll see some of you there.

I may try to check out Smiley's also.

Anyway, it's good to see there's some kind of fighting game scene in Houston.

Total-Scrub here but excited about getting into the local scene.

So, I'm pretty new to fighting games in general but I know a fellow who plays semi-competitively in San Antonio where the scene is more prominent if I understand correctly. I'm really psyked to find out that there are things going on locally that I can participate in as I claw my way up from noobdom.

My xbox live ID is: Emancipadorable
- I play MVC3 with the standard xbox controller T_T

I've been looking into getting an SSFIV SE fight stick from Mad Catz and modding it Sanwa parts from LizardLick.com

Obviously, sufficient gear will help but won't make transform a scrub into a hero.

Which events/locales would be best for someone starting out from ground zero in terms of skill and experience. I look forward to learning and advancing and I am quite aware that I will likely begin this journey losing terribly - I'm cool with that.

I'd just like to know which gatherings here in Houston would be best for me because I don't want to waste very experienced players time if they expect decent competition.

Thanks in advance, looking forward to meeting and playing with many of you in the future!

Playing the experienced is actually a great way to learn! However, it IS always good to be able to play amongst people at your level too (and I mean noob, not, pro, etc.). :)

I live in the Galleria area, looking for local training partner(s) as this is the first FG I've taken seriously since Tekken 5. Starting to get the hang of things but my progress is not coming along as fast as I would like, feel free to send me a PM or friend request on XBL (same name) if you want to throw down!

Cool expect a friend request from me. See we can get some matches in. Btw I live like 5 min from the galleria.

Hey, I just discovered this thread (because I just signed up for TYM).

I live in Sugar Land and like 30 seconds from Smileys and I was blown away that they had MK. I was hoping someone could give me more information on it (systems and what not. my main concern is that I play on stick but only on a 360 stick) because I would love to start attending their sessions.

I'll also see if I can start going to Planet Zero (went there a few time in January to play Street Fighter, then got busy with school...ugh). I liked the place and I know it'll be able to level up my game.

Also, if anyone wants to play on the 360, hit me up anytime I'd be more than happy to play you. My GT is TX Fats
