I recorded the final two matchups of the mk2 tournament (myself vs btbb and btbb vs david gem. Great fights and great fun all around. I will upload when I get home tonight.
I learned a lot this weekend. I learned my AA game needs a lot of work, I perform well under pressure, and I'm better with some of the other characters than I thought I was. I also completely changed my philosophy for non-random tourneys. I turned into a cut-throat, counterpicker and didnt feel bad about it at all, lol. Like you guys have said all along, do what you have to do to win! All things considered I'm more than pleased with how I did.
Now for some shout-outs:
@ David, I know you are "banned" from this site, but in the off chance you can actually read this, congrats again on the tournament win. The final match between you and reo was the single greatest match many of us have ever seen. It was great to finally meet you in person after all this time. Shame we never got paired up in the tournament - I know that would have been YouTube caliber shit. Hopefully our paths will cross again.
@ Brian, as always a pleasure to interact with you. Thanks for introducing me to crabfries this weekend! Kicked my ass in the first set, but I made a respectable showing in the rematch. I can't help but feel I let that one slip through my fingers, but you won it fair and square. Next time, you'll be the one in my crosshairs
@ Dookie, wow, again nice to meet another longtime online friend. Glad we got a chance to play in the tournament for sure. You have the sickest Kitana in the game when it comes to corner combos, online or offline. Nice comeback win from danger with the air fan counter on the teleport kick. Second greatest moment of the day aside from gem/reo.
@ Summoning, I think we have garnered mutual respect for each other this weekend. You're a great person in the game and in the community. I'd be lying though if I told you I wasn't itching for the rematch for six long months, lol. Despite the disagreements you have with I and the other online players, you proved a point about offline vs online play. I plan on adapting some of your aa combos into my game to make it better for the inevitable rubber match next time.
@ AC1984, I met you briefly at Summer Jam last year but never really got to talk to you. I never knew you came from overseas, very cool. Wish I could have been there to see you win your first UMK3 tournament. You def deserve it.
@ Nodoubt, also nice to meet you in person. Very friendly, knowledgeable kombatant. Nice strong showing for second place in UMK3. Kicking myself for not staying to watch that stuff!
@ Phil, nice to meet you as well! You do a great job organizing these tournaments and you aren't a half bad player to boot! Just make sure I get my $5 back for the UMK3 tourney when possible. I would have loved to stay, but I had a longass drive back to Pittsburgh today.
@ Shock, well obviously some of the stuff I learned from you can't be shared publicly (yet,) but it just goes to show how respected a player you are in UMK3. I was hoping I would get a chance to play you in UMK3 to get a few lessons, lmao! I'll catch you next time.
@ Rob, another great guy to meet for the first time in person! Like the other staffers, a great credit to the community as a player and a tournament organizer. I'll cya around on the forums.
