General "True Damage" and Block Chip Damage Information

Aidan

The Marvelous Meter Man
First, we need to know what these two forms of data are.

True Damage: True damage is the actual damage that a move or a combo does. Simple enough.

Block Chip Damage: This is the amount of damage done to an enemy when they block your attack. Block chip does not scale. What I mean is if you use a string like Raiden's 334 against an opponent that's not blocking it shows up as 5%, 3%, 8% but that 8% actually does 9.1% without scaling. Therefore you do 1.51%+1.31%+1.91%=4.73% chip instead of 4.62% if the chip was scaled like the combo.

Calculating True Damage: Here's how to calculate true damage as well as chip damage incase any of you feel I have made a mistake. When you have damage info on in training mode the floating percentages are not true damage; they are rounded damages for training mode to be more simple. Let's take Raiden's 4 for example, you hit your enemy and a 9% will float up, but you can only hit the enemy 11 times until their life bar refills which doesn't make sense since 9*11=99 so there should be 1% left. That's where the TRUE DAMAGE FORMULA comes in.
1. Do the move as many times as you can BEFORE you would run out of health (Raiden 4, do it 10 times since 11 kills the opponent)
2. Do d3s which do (.5%) until they die, or as many as you can do before. (Raiden 4, after 10 4s it takes 18 d3s to finish them off)
3. For an even more accurate number, once you feel you have done as many d3s as you can without killing them (you will mess up a few times) make the opponent go into crouch block and do blocked d3s (.05%) to get the right amount (Although Raiden is an even 18 d3s, I could have done only 17 d3s and did 10 blocked d3s just to be sure)
4. The formula looks like this: T=(100-(.5*X) - (.05*Y))/Z
T=True Damage X=# of d3s Y=# of blocked d3s Z=# of times attack was used 100=100% life
You can do the same thing for chip damage. Just have the opponent blocking when you attack and when doing blockstrings count per string and not attack.
So for Raiden's 4 it would look like (100-(.5*17)-(.05*10))/10=9.1%, therefore Raiden's 4 does 9.1%, not 9%
5. Do 100/T to find out how many times you need to do the attack to do 100% damage

These differences may not look like much, but, for example, an attack that does 9.1% requires one less 9% attack to empty their life bar completely. 9% would take 12 to completely empty it, whereas 9.1% empties the bar in 11 uses.

qweeler we truly appreciate all you are doing for the community atm. In between this set of information and the meter building data you have done some tremendous work.

Can't wait to see Sektor's so it can fit nicely into my guide :p

Thanks, but after this I don't know what to do. Maybe take a break, this much basic math is no good for anybody.
