Match-up Discussion Fighting the Aquaman???

I need help fighting this a-hole. I can typically face almost any character with Harley and do a descent job going against everyone. Harley is fun to use and she has some odd tricks up her sleeve, but everytime I face AM I can't seem to either get close to him or even get ahit on him.

You can't zone him, its way to unsafe, you can't Opsie Daisy a large amount. HIs damn overhead becomes a pain. I juts can't fight this guy no matter what I try and I am sure I'm not the only one that struggles in an AM match-up.

Anyone have thoughts they could share on facing him.

Good players give you hell regardless of who they use. That being said.. MOST seamen spam the same two strings (varies by scrub) and his trident uppercut as an AA. The pristine zone to fight AM is right outside his trident reach. His normals can't hit, and his projectile recovery can be punished. It is only human nature to want to rush in and kick the shit out of AM.. However much like DS, it is a match of patience.. Learn how to block his strings and punish his ass hard.

Think you for your advice I never thought anyone would answer, its funny how I never even thought of something so simple. I always derad this matchup.

No problem man.. Also.. Train him to uppercut with his trident... AM is trained when he sees someone in the air to D2 (I believe?!) stop your jump short with air guns.. Hell.. Abuse air guns (he has nothing but jumping attack to counter it) then when he starts blocking the air guns high.. It opens your options because he is now on the defensive.

Not a bad idea.. However it comes down to knowing your defensive skills and knowing how to block his attacks.. One wrong guess hurts and then puts more distance between you.

Since i play Aquaman the only way to play against him is by spacing him out correctly and when you get the chance to zone him out. Also when you corner him try to apply some pressure with F2 or back 3,1 i believe is correct.

Its good to get advice from the other side, yeah I figured spacing is the way you go about it. HQ can take big advantage of being just outside his range, another one I found out was when using CW her DF3 normal attack has way more range the AM has.

Play doctor punishes his qcb 1 special, and b2,2 can punish it if you're in the corner due to reduced pushback.

thanks for this - great stuff. I noticed you often block low on his ground trident, any specific reason? I've found by stand blocking it is easier to get reversals off.

I forgot that it hits mid, I feel the best way is to block it mid and then do an oopsi daisy

Just force of habit. No real reason. I still need tons more experience against Aquaman..

I'm going to reply to a few points. Blocking low tends to be more safe as far as being in close. Aquamans overhead starter is slow and can be baited to a degree if you are expecting it. It should also be said that he can finish most of his strings with a low special, so I tend to block low most of the time. If you watch for it you can see the overhead come out, but then I crouch immediately after to defend against the low special(i think it's his db1). AM also can finish his sting with an overhead that cannot combo, but leave you pressured and possibly susceptible to a jump in, so just keep that in mind.

Be careful of the uppercut and punish with TS or depending on range d1 into TS. This is something I don't see much of, but one of HQ's best pressure techniques. If AM blocks the TS and you cartwheel out of it, you better block his uppercut because that is most likely what's coming out after, or his low starter string which is really fast. Block low and you should be safe.

As far as spacing @KamkaziChicila has it right. Also be thinking about silly slide into TS. to catch him off guard. Her air shot is one of her best tools especially if you get the opponent trained to block low from TS rape. If you are out of range with her air shot, you are open to punish from spear throw or MB ground strike thing.

If you can master blocking against AM's ticky tacky hi-low, low-high business, then the game is yours. Keep good distance and if he's a lame AM, get in close for some punishment.
If you are able to get a free JI2, or neutral jump 2, utilize the F+2 starter into TS, this will drive them crazy. If they block high, use B+22 starter. Mix them up. If you are jumping distance, it can also be affective to try B+12 into TS. You can even jump into TS from F+22(hit confirm the second 2). If you are using these tools along with her specials it should be yours to take.

Some of this may have been said in other strategies, but I thought I would just hit them all for good measure. AM is a turd, and very good one's give me trouble.
