If I play with sound on, which is uncommon, I put myself in my own private PSN group so I don't hear anyone else talking.

I usually play with the sound off though.

I’m kinda surprised at how many people play with the sound off. That just seems so weird to me. I need all of the sounds on. I want the full experience when I play games.

I don't care I'm not a competitive player anymore
I have the game and Youtube at full volume, so usually Youtube is the dominant sound with MK effects breaking through. Maybe it's subconscious, but it's easier to concentrate on playing the game when there's some noise to go along with it. Correlating some sounds to either good or bad things keeps me from getting distracted, and it also heightens emotional rewards. Locking somebody down in the corner with Shao is pretty fun, but hearing those resonating hammer pings as you do it is all the more satisfying. Kabal's slashing and clanging sounds on block help me hit confirm (at least I think) because the noises are so distinguishable from hit and block.

It depends, but usually when I'm grinding offline or in KL, I play with ingame music turned off and listening to a playlist in Spotify, that I choose depending on my mood (the most usual to play with Kano online is some HxC punk or r&r as it fits him so well and encourage the agressive risk/reward playstyle jaja). I never turn sound effects off and, generally speaking, I play my music at a low/medium volume as if it was ingame music.
However, sometimes I just play with all the ingame sound on.

NRS should put an option to mute the opponent.

I don't wanna hear his weird noises, his weird music, or children screaming or anything else.

I play with the sound on but I always make a private party with party chat prioritized in it so I don't hear people talking on the mic, I also usually play music too while I play.
