Comic Writer praises Injustice: Gods Among Us plot

Just about 15 days before the first Injustice comic book is scheduled to hit shelves we are presented with some surprising words from comic book writer, Tom Taylor regarding the story-line. With speaking to VG247.com, Tom says that what he was expecting to read ended up being something of, "perfect balance between emotional, epic storytelling and sudden, irreparable spine removal". What this really goes to show is that NetherRealm Studios has poured their heart in to the Injustice: Gods Among Us story and should have both fighting game players and DC comic book fans on a thrill-ride come January 30th.

Injustice: Gods Among Us was written by NetherRealm, and prequel comic scribe Tom Taylor believes the team has avoided the usually flimsy narratives common to fighting games.

“Fighting games aren’t typically known for their narratives. However I’m happy to report that the writers have written an incredible story,” Taylor told IGN.

“To tell you the truth, when the script arrived, I rolled my eyes, gritted my teeth and prepared to read through what I assumed would be a standard script to a fighting game; some ham-fisted dialogue, followed by some flaky reason to want to take out the opponents ribs one at a time.

“And then I started reading it – and I read the entire thing in one sitting – and then I grinned. This really is the most ambitious script I’ve ever seen from a fighting game, and the NetherRealm guys have pulled it off.”

Taylor said he’d been expecting to struggle to make the game’s prequel comic series interesting given the dictates of NetherRealm’s fiction, but instead found himself wondering how to complement it.
“How do I too find that perfect balance between emotional, epic storytelling and sudden, irreparable spine removal?” he asked.

The prequel comic series charts the fall of the DC universe from a utopia like modern day to the bleak future of the game itself, which pits former allies against each other. It will release in ten page batches every Tuesday through DC’s digital channels as well as in monthly editions collecting three chapters. Print editions are expected, including the first six chapters as part of the game’s collector’s edition.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is expected on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in April.

I'm going to be DAYS behind everyone else, in terms of competitive skill. I will be spending my first hours of owning this game doing NOTHING but Story Mode.

When exactly are these issues suppose to be hitting stores? Or did ti already start?
This month. I expect within a week/ week and a half. Well...my comic store says they get all the new stuff on like the 21st of every month or something like that.

I hope NRS gives the story some replay value. MK story mode was nice but after one playthrough there was nothing more to see. At least MK vs DC had the two sides to play as.

DC says from today (first ones already out) 10 digital pages every tuesday, last week the book comes out with the 30 preceding pages in it. And then when the game comes out you can get all 6 books in a trade, I guess.

No, they'll say a game made after their main merchandise actually sucks balls. Come on. Get an independent critic to praise it and then it's news.
