The game is turning into who can string together the longest combo and use it over and over and over and over.
It robs the matches of ebb and flow and instead turns them into mindless robot kata-kombat (I'm coining this term. Fear me.).
Wouldn't it spice up matches more if the combo pleebs had to keep on their toes and mix up their gameplay for fear of being stuffed by a Combo Breaker?
Killer Instinct had some crazy combos but combo breakers weren't limited by meter use. It was a timing mechanic that made protracted combos risky because they could be broken in select phases of the combo.
It's a small distinction, but one that kept matches fresh and lively.
