OK, there's a couple things being said by both sides that sounds like the abortion debate with how bad both sides miss the point:
1) support the game that we came from vs people should not be forced to play a game they dont like.
the negative nancies are right, you dont have to play a game you dont like, but the logic behind the idealist argument is that if you played the game for 2 years you probably like it and so you should support it regardless of another game being out. i can sympathise with this point better, but there's also extraneous reasons that could cause someone to have to pick, like if they're maxed out on their budget or something. What i have seen is largely affected by the next point.
2) The game is dying, so why should i play in a tournament when no one will show up vs. ... (i havent seen a counter argument for this)
This is really dumb because, for whatever reason, this stupid ass self fulfilling prophecy is allowed to get by everyone;s bullshit radar. Obviously the more people that say they wont sign up because noone is signing up, the more true this becomes. If you cannot see that by saying this you are literally causing it to become true then you are a mouth-breathing idiot who should not be in this conversation anyway.
3) i've done what i came to do vs. that's stupid, just support the game
I agree that this is stupid. What, are you on some mission from jesus to do well at one tournament and leave to another game where you get berated and embarrassed for sub-par performances with a playstyle you claim to be the best at? hmm... i swear this wasnt originally just supposed to be about m2dave. Even so, "i did what i came to do" is stupid because if you really think you're so top at a game that you dont need to play it anymore you might as well stick around and collect paychecks.
4) mk9 has glitches (injustice doesnt) vs. so do other games
first, injustice has glitches too, lets be serious here. we cant even decide on the rules for picking the stage much less settling on it being a good game. So if that's why you're not playing MK you're a fucking idiot. But even so, MK's glitches are all pretty managable (and there's only 3 of them that affect gameplay), and we've been dealing with them for years. if you're still whining about this you need to grow up. Even
AU_IM_DIGIMON doesnt complain about this anymore. You're right, there's no patch coming, waa spilled milk. as for the argument about other games, that doesnt matter, they're not the subject of this discussion, so it doesnt even warrant a response.
5) NRS vs. Capcom
WHO THE FUCK CARES? Yo seriously, they're fucking video games. Bunch of fucking children acting like it's a gang war. Play games that you like, not games from X or Y company, that's fucking stupid. Sure, NRS made MK, the game that brought us all together, that doesnt mean you have to deep throat gak them on every game they release and bash Capcom. Also, just because Capcom has 3 games that are doing pretty well in the competitive scene doesnt mean you have to deep throat gak them for everything either. Yo seriously? Just play games.
The final point abou top players not wanting to fall off or something
This is saying that you dont believe in yourself. If you really think that there's this huge stigma to losing a couple matches in a video game at some tournament then there's something wrong with you. Also, if you think that you're maxed out and that you cant get better you're simply wrong. That's why i respect people like
tank u-gin when he said he still wants to improve at UMK3, a game old enough to smoke and drive! Furthermore, that's why i really respect people like Chris G (got embarrassed while using a "brain dead" character and came back the next tournament to body some top players and get top 16/top8) and
AK Pig Of The Hut (got completely embarrassed by not clearing his pool at his local major after top 8 in every tournament for a year and a half, returned to top 16 at the next major, awaiting results from the next one (my money's on another top 8)).
If you're too much of a coward to keep playing a game that you enjoy for such petty reasons, then whatever, but at the end of the day there's only one reason people should decide what games they play in tournament: FUN
