i think that would be a good midway/rare ware tournament... or if anyone else has a suggestion of combo matches like evo does with capcom.

In the past I think the tough part would be what version to use. MK2 could use the MAT2 version. I think there is a lot of people hoping that UMK3 for the PS2 will be good enough to be used in tournaments. They won't bring in the arcade machines for these games to things like EVO, and setting up a computer with an illegal ROM of the game would be kind of a bad idea for such a high profile tournament.

And as far as the KI's, I don't know them well enough. Are there good quality console versions that could be used at a tournament?

The only game that will get a turnout with actual decent players for the respective game is UMK3.
