i know this doesn't effect me, but having 50/50 stage select as the standard is retarded and i would be pissed if a was going

what evs i guess
Keits has a long history of sticking with the in-game default way of handling things, whatever the game may be. He absolutely hates "making up extra rules" whenever he can avoid it.

To give you an idea of what I'm talking about here, he was one of *the* main voices pushing for Evo to use items & smashballs in Brawl. Hell, for quite some time afterward, he continued to promote a variant called "All-Brawl" (all items, all stages) at his events. In short, he'd rather leave matches up to luck than ban things or use an "outside the game" way of handling a situation. This is very much in line with Evo's general philosophy as well, which was a major reason they never had Smash again until this year.

I think this is just about the worst possible rule for stage selection, but it's perfectly consistent with his past and shouldn't surprise anyone.

I just think its whack since most other games have stage rules and/or some other rules (Auto Super Jump turned off in UMVC3). Being such a large tournament, it has a chance to set the standard for tournament play if the rules are well received. I feel like it's a wasted opportunity this early in the life of the game.

As a side note, any game that either has random stage, or a default stage that is selected if either player requests it, could be argued is "going against how the game is meant to be played". I don't get the argument for it.

tbh the best example of that is the whole "loser can switch characters, winner can't" idea. It came from the arcade era when most fighting games did that by default, but it stuck even with games like Tekken (where the older games let the winner switch after each match). There are definitely inconsistencies like that which Capcom players tend to ignore in all of this. Hell, banning Akuma in ST lol

I think if we can make a solid case for better stage selection rules to other major tournament organizers, this should not be a big issue. Keits is much more of a hardliner than the other big names out there, so I wouldn't worry too much.

For some clarity;

I've had players begging us to use the patch for a solid week now. It fixes important bugs, stops the Cyborg block infinite. We didn't want to update at this time, but as it turns out our systems will be returning from additional tournaments patched, we can't revert and we are pretty much stuck in this position now. Its either this or the pre-day 1 no patch version. This is what happens when you compete in a "living" game from week to week. Sometimes your character get nerfed. I'm a player too, remember, so I know how much that sucks, but you need to understand that we are doing our best to support this game given the circumstances we are in. Please don't cut us down for trying.

Stage selection - I agree its not great this way at all. That said, we've talked to MANY of you and you all have different ideas as to what the rules actually should be. Its given me no direction, and has lead me to believe that choosing one man's rules over another's will just cause confusion during the tournament for most players as, lets face it, most don't bother to even read the rules.

If you guys had something standard most of you agreed on at this point, it would be easy to accommodate.

Edit - I wanted to add to this for additional clarity; I think we can all agree that button config works pretty damn well in Injustice. Its the "good" kind, you can do it on character select... but the game has been out for how long now and I'm still watching players on streams struggle to setup their buttons and then spend minutes testing them in game, even though the button config IS a test in and of itself. Seeing stuff like this doesn't give me confidence that if we implement a meta set of stage selection rules that people will be able to follow along very well.

I've always thought Loser's Pick for Stages made the most sense. It goes in line with Loser's Pick for character selection as well.

Button checks are horrible imo. You can set it up before a match. Take your time setting up your buttons and let it roll. These MK button style checks are slowing down tournaments.

I totally agree, but it requires the cooperation of the winning player because of the 50/50 thing. If he doesnt cooperate (maybe he is just mashing to get to the next match, or just doesnt know), then we to waste a ton of time going back through character select. And how many times will this happen during the tournament? Hundreds?

I'm worried about it, obviously. I enjoy and play Injustice, so I definitely care about this.

Ouch...poor Wonder Woman. She got glitched in this patch and can't do some stuff now. Like IMPORTANT stuff.

Keits I agree and see the position you are in.
Too bad WW and DS mainers are screwed unless NRS fix the damn bug for her(DS still screwed).

Is this sarcasm?I feel this is sarcasm.
Not really. Folks cant relearn Wonder Woman for this even if they want to use her due to her glitch. Her not being able to do jumping normals after B3 is a bad glitch as everyone should be able to do those. Everyone will be dealing with the new build at this tourney, but that was gonna happen soon anyhow.

In essence I know ALL character players are going through having to relearn and adapt shortly before a tourney...especially those whose character was nerfed. It will be rough for everyone. However, they were going to HAVE to do this very soon anyhow. I just regret that WW in particular is likely going to have trouble here because she isn't fully working due to an error. Folks can't relearn her even if they want to unlike the rest of the cast.
