Arcade stick VS. Control pad... which has an advantage?

I'm happy with the 360 joystick, although I do use the d-pad when I have to input the same direction multiple times.

I also grew up in arcades but I moved on to the Keyboard when there was nothing else. In the mid 90s there wasn't a single decent gamepad for PC out there, at least, none that fit my standards, and there were no adapters for systems, at least none that I knew of. The keyboard is just so much more accurate.

Is it like a keyboard you type with?
