What variations for Takeda?
What gives you trouble execution wise?I definitely like Kung Lao, but my execution isn't good enough.
All fighting games require good footsies to some degree. Your problem is thinking smash is a fighting game to begin with, thus your mind is warped and evil.Is there any game that requires good footsies? Movement in fighters is never dynamic enough for me.. Unless im playing ssbm it never feels like i need to learn better movement

The basics of footsies is how well you play the neutral game. Nobody is in each others face, but neither are you at full screen from each other.Would someone please explain to me what a footsie character is when all characters play footsies to some degree or another and every character has their own footsie tools?
I understand all of this. For example with kenshi I want you at my spirit charge max range. I get that. I just don't know what exactly a "footsies character" is unless he's really asking for a character that when they win the footsie game continues to play it instead of knocking them to zoning range or applying strong oki or plus frame pressure. The best characters tend to end up having both strong footsie tools and another area they excell atThe basics of footsies is how well you play the neutral game. Let me give an example:
I am Kotal, and my f1(which can lead into full combo) has a decent amount of range vs most of the rest of the casts normals. I want to hover around the edge of f1 range and see and react to what my opponent does(this is a general example, there can be a lot of factors at play). Say I catch another player whiff either the beginning of their strings, go for a low, or perhaps start a special move. Now since I am hovering around f1 range I have more time to mentally react and now I have a variety of options. I could a) interrupt whatever string they just whiffed the first hit of with f1, go into my stuff, b) go for ex overhead just by seeing their move come out, armour through and get combo, c) jump, or just what have you.
The essence of footsies is basically, forcing your opponent into making a mistake at midscreen and enforcing your own plan. The more you dominate neutral, the more risks an opponent is willing to take. Everyone can do it on paper as everyone will have their moves they like in neutral, and you will mostly want to stay at the max effective range of that move, but obviously some characters based off their normals or specials are just more effective at it than others.
*edit*
Bleh, to get super reductive about it, it basically boils down to stay at edge of the maximum reach of your best moves, bully with them, and then bait mistakes.
Well generally, a footsies character is a character who plays that exact style much better than most. Longer ranged, faster moves. This doesn't count fireballs or anything because you can get blown up for whiffing a fireball easily, but not so much on whiffing a normal. Characters that can keep with their neutral pressure in a way that forces the other character to switch things up are footsies characters. So Kotal with f1, b1, f2, d4, OH sword, is a footsies character because these options let him dominate neutral, Jacqui with T-rex range and no options unless at full screen or up close is not one.I understand all of this. If there ever was an "end thread" moment it is this. But to answer op's question, best footsie characters in this game from the aspect of playing the mid range game imo are D'vorah, Kotal, Reptile, Jax, Cassie, Shinnok, Kung Lao and last but not least Sub Zero.
