This is the first year where I have not seen a single one of the best picture nominations. Haven't even heard of like half of them.

I highly recommend Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash.
Ive actually wanted to see most of them for quite sometime.

I also really liked Interstellar and think it should of got a nomination, but I am also totally biased towards sci-fi movies.

Didn't really care for Interstellar that much myself, Under the Skin was my favorite sci-fi film of the year.
Gone Girl only got one nomination though, whaaat?

Yeah, see... that is bullshit.

Meanwhile The Theory of Everything has five nominations. Look, I'm sure it's good, but I'm tired of these Oscar bait movies.
The Imitation Game got NINE nominations, it wasnt anything special or new but was very heavy "Oscar bait". The storytelling was very screenwriting 101 with a lot of cliches and at times cringy dialogue.

I'm so glad Whiplash got a nomination for best picture, that film was something else.

Yeah, I found out about The Imitation Game shortly after I posted that.

At least we got "Dick Poop" though, that was some comedy right there.

I've now seen all the Best Picture Nominees. Whiplash and The Grand Budapest Hotel stand above all else for me, Birdman is a close second. Funny how half the best picture nominees end in white text over a black background telling what happened to the characters after the film's timeline lol.

I saw 51 films in 2014, here's my top 10 as of right now.

1. Whiplash & The Grand Budapest Hotel
2. Birdman
3. Gone Girl
4. Enemy
5. Blue Ruin
6. Nightcrawler
7. The Rover
8. Frank
9. Foxcatcher
10. Night Moves

Honorable mentions: Boyhood, Ida, 20,000 Days on Earth (documentary), Life Itself (documentary), Jodorowsky's Dune (documentary)
I've still yet to see films like Winter Sleep, Inherent Vice, Leviathan, The Dance of Reality and Mommy. I'm sure my list will be a whole lot different a few months from now.
