Nerf?

What is nerf? I've seen it on several posts. Also, I see combo's on here as d1,3,3 just as an example. How do the numbers match up to the shapes on the controller?

I know it's a noob question, but I'm a noob at this.

Nerf is something people say when they think a character gets overall worse when something is changed/removed.

d1,3,3 is read as down FP, FK, FK

When you nerf something, you make it worse. The term originates from Ultima Online. Bows were too good so the developers made them worse. Players complained that it felt like they were firing Nerf arrows (as in, the soft toy arrows). And now you know the rest of the story.

1 2 3 4 are front punch, back punch, front kick, and back kick, respectively.

A nerf is a reduction. Whether it be damage percent, properties within a move or combo, etc.
