Whether you were at E3 this week or not, here's a slice of information regarding the new reboot that might surprise you. Since 1996 (KI2) we've gone without a new version of Killer Instinct and finally many die-hard fans dreams are coming true. While the game is being developed by Double Helix Games, it was actually Microsoft's idea to relaunch the title. "The developer put together “an awesome prototype” in order to secure the job from Microsoft, he added." "With new hardware coming soon... the decision was made, we gotta bring this back."

Killer Instinct developer Double Helix said it jumped at the chance to work on the franchise, but it was Microsoft who initiated the reboot.
“The idea to bring it back came originally from Microsoft,” design director David Verfaillie told Siliconera of the reboot.
“They had new hardware coming soon and were like, ‘the time is now, we gotta bring this back’. So we heard about the chance and jumped at it.”
The developer put together “an awesome prototype” in order to secure the job from Microsoft, he added.
Double Helix’s previous efforts include Front Mission Evolved. Killer Instinct is coming to Xbox One but has not been dated. It’s free to play.
