Spamming a viable way of winning?

So I just had this great match with this guy on PSN. I play a lot of KL, and with that I use his ground hat move because its fast and keeps people away. All this dude did when I won is bitch and moan. Shouldn't you have to know how to get out of situations like that, and how to counter properly when trying to get good when playing competitively? Anyone else please feel free to share you thoughts on this.

I had a guy quit after 5 consecutive ground pounds playing as jax. I was like...wow really? I've heard people who bitch about "blockers" and thought that was bad but not wanting to jump? lol

Exactly, there is not a single game that is played online where you don't have someone bitching at you. In fps you sit and play sniper your get called a camper, ect. Just either ignore the salty whiners or try to educate them it's all you can do.

I was playing Ermac against some loser's Sub-Zero, I caught him with Lift > Push, and then it was time for fireballs to keep this dude away from me because Sub-Zero destroys Ermac in close. I throw THREE fireballs in a row and he ragequits. I send him the message "U MAD BRO?" and he responds "u spammed" and I tell him "and you lost" then he sent me a voice message that I couldn't understand, really... but I'm pretty sure I stole his cloudsong.

But yeah, it's not spamming, it's zoning. It's a viable way to win if you can do it right offline. And it's a viable way to win by enemy ragequit online.

So because this guy refused to block ANYTHING and for some reason wouldn't stop playing me i finally just switched to noob to really piss him off Shadow tackle-shadow slide all day lol He finally quit.

That is my norm when playing Ermacs, when I fight an actual GOOD Ermac I don't know what to do because 90% of the ones I play suck ass. Stop doing it after like the 12th time I've punished you for doing it...gimme a break.

I'd like to get some actual matchup experience, c'mon now.

EDIT: On a serious note though, I hate playing people who just spam the shadow tackle and shadow kick with Noob. I rarely see a good noob combo mixup and im sure he has a loooot of potential. It's such a shame that people usually spam the hell out of his moves :-(

sad thing with Noob is online his combos that are not corner combos are ridiculous to pull due to lag so even good Noob's(haha) are forced into shadow spam. I hate doing it because he has legit strong combos but if you whif with him you are in a terrible position. This is one of the main reasons i hardly play him online anymore (he was my main and is my second offline).

Usually even if a good Noob uses the same moves a lot to keep you at a distance, they are not just spamming but are also putting a lot of thought and consideration into timing, distance, etc. A Noob who ACTUALLY just spams is not very hard to beat imo.

See, I personally don't have a problem with projectiles, what I do have a problem with is getting chipped out and losing the round due to them. They're handing out projectile armor like candy now though, so hopefully they'll actually give Reptile a viable projectile armor, as opposed to acid hand...which doesn't do shit for him against getting zoned out by Kano, Kabal, Liu Kang and Cyrax. Yes, I'm aware that his x-ray goes through projectiles, but I don't always have a full bar in these situations. It isn't guaranteed, either, been hit out of it with a knife before.


Guess I should pick up the new FoTMs; Nightwolf and Johnny Cage.

Well that depends on who you're playing as, really. I think Noobs can get by just fine by timing their shadows and staying unpredictable. Most of the good Noobs I saw didn't really need to use any strings at all, because even if they got over their shadows they were met with a shadow kick. I kinda wish they didn't make Noob so zone heavy, hes too cool of a design to be wasted on zoning.

@IniquityDM- all I can say is the cliche don't hate the player, hate the game. I agree, though, that there's some strange philosophy behind who gets what zoning/rushdown tool and who doesn't.

They know what works and what doesn't online, so they alter their play style to suit that online slow motion mess. This game can't be played normally online, sad but true.

I know where you're coming from, but thats not really the question. If spamming is working...then it is a viable way to win. Whats viable depends on what you're opponent is letting happen.

The definition of spamming is using the same move over and over. Anyone who loses to spamming is clearly a newbie and it is by no means a viable tactic. Any player worth their salt will punish such a one dimensional tactic.

I've come to the conclusion that roughly 96% of the people you find online have absolutely no idea how to play this game. I can't count how many times I've PURPOSEFULLY left myself wide open (to a spear, iceball, cyrax net, etc) to see how the guy would react, and the person thinks the best way to follow up is to throw or do a sweep. Seriously, I didn't think it was possible for this big of a proportion of players to be completely clueless about a game, but the MK online community has definitely proved me wrong.
I especially try my hardest to only fight people with at least double the wins as they have losses (which is like 3 or 4 between all rooms), and even then, they just use methods they know work in the online environment. Maybe I've just had a really bad streak of nublets over the past few weeks, but that's my experience.

I'm just glad i have offline friends that actually challenge me, otherwise I'd be mentally insane by now.

not much else you can do online. you certainly can't depend on any combos more than 20% (excluding x-rays) because of the lag.

In short. Yes, its a viable way of winning. In fact anything in the game that isnt legally banned in tournament play is a viable way of winning. Winning is all that matters, not how you won. It is not your job to make the match entertaining,fun,enjoyable,challenging,whatever for your opponent. Your only job is to beat him.
