What's your method of blocking in Injustice?

I try to watch as many streams as I can, and something I notice is that it looks like the top tournament players have mastered pressing back just as there about to get hit. Playing online though... I don't trust my reaction time with the delay so 10 times out of 10 I cant block on reaction like that. I always back myself up trying to block, and I know that's not a good way to fight because it destroys my spacing options, but at the same time I don't want to get blown up by trying to block using reaction. Mind you I don't have a scene here in Jacksonville Alabama so besides playing the computer on hard I NEVER get to really play people without lag. Anyway I was wondering what's your method to blocking?

Its very match up dependent for me.
Most of the time I'll be only holding down when I'm advancing then go to back only when needed.

Doing that against a character like black adam isn't exactly the smartest thing to do.

here are some matches where I deal with zoning characters as nightwing. This tournament took place last weekend. I usually hold down in match ups like these and react to any overheads
6:18:00 - first match vs raven
6:45:00 - second match vs deathstroke
7:02:00 - third match vs cyborg

When you are close its never a good idea to dash unless you have a good recovery on it like batgirl. Walking back and forth mixed with crouch blocking usually helps with my spacing and footsies.

I really like that you made this thread, because it's honestly something that I hadn't stopped to think about very much beforehand.

Against a lot of opponents (i.e. the ones with poor overhead options), I default to crouch blocking outside of the range of their longest range overheard and go from there. In cases where stand blocking is necessary, I definitely don't go for pressing back on reaction (too much chance of getting blown up) - instead, I tend to start pressing back when I can sense an attack coming, and if after about 1/2 a second they still haven't attacked, I stop pressing it at least briefly, and decide based on the circumstances what to do afterwards.

Bear in mind, however, that my primary character of choice is Raven (though I dabble with several others), and in general I don't want to be close to my opponent if I can help it.

Very much true. Sometimes I even psych myself out when I block thinking that their going to come in, and they don't lol.
