actually hulk hogan gave him beer and let him drive knowing nicks history of speeding in wich he already had 2 tickets before this

also for hulk to say on the jail tape that the marine was a bad influence was fucking sickening

you have a guy who basicly dodged bullets and w/e else over seas to come home and end up paralyzed from a car accident simply becuse of idiotic parenting and idiotic choices nick made
So not wearing a seatbelt is Nicks fault? And again Nick was minor. Seems to me your argument should be minors get away with shit not celebrities.

He deserves the sentence.

A man that has committed that many crimes obviously has no respect for the law/society, so keeping him incarcerated would protect the people of Waco.

Texas >_> Aren't they allowed to kill someone, if that person tries to steal their horse?
I heard some crazy stuff like that few years ago.

America's justice system is Kano tier.
Worries me that it got to the second page without anybody bringing this up.

This guy might not be a repeat offender if we had any system for rehabilitation instead of just incarceration in America. We have the largest prison population in the world per capita, and I believe in terms of raw numbers as well. By the way - prisons are privatized in America. The people running them are paid by the state for every inmate they house. How do you suppose they're going to maximize their profits?

Or he might still be a repeat offender anyway and the extra money spent to rehab inmates would be a waste. What does prisons being privatized have to do with anything they dont control who goes to jail.

Empirical data disagrees with this. You're never going to reform everybody, but it's possible to prevent most people from reoffending if you have good rehabilitation programs in place. Most problems that cause people to commit crimes can be addressed and solved or treated. Other countries that use comprehensive rehab programs have much lower rates of repeat offenses.

What does prisons being privatized have to do with anything they dont control who goes to jail.
Lobby money.

An insanity plea is hardly better. The reason people do that in the first place is to avoid the death penalty. People who are locked up in mental institutions usually have a very long stay and it's very hard to be evaluated as healthy enough to be released back into society.

Ah, yes, people do love to cite the most extreme cases of criminal conduct in these arguments. The problem with that is that the extreme criminal does not compose the vast majority of offenders. The average thief or drug abuser (the vast majority of crimes right there) is not homicidally insane.
