What criteria did you base your main character choice on?

ADR Napalm

Apprentice
Good 50/50 game and decent to good speed. Surprisingly I like a lot of characters in this game. The only one I really really hate and despise is Sheeva.

Organelle

How often people cry about them, so I can abuse the character until NRS nerfs them.
Lol nice

i like sheeva (and to a lesser extent Jax) cause i LOVE GRAPPLERS and people with command grabs and unblockables. now obviously command grabs in this game would be too powerful if they were unblockable, but even still i like Sheeva cause of her Stomp and Fireball and some really high damage bnbs. whats really nice about her as a grappler though is how mobile she is compared to someone like Zangief too. you think you can get away but she just sort of APPEARS. i just straight up like her and try as i might, i just dont want play anybody else.
Stick with her. Just like sc2, I played zerg when they were grossly underpowered, then they became op, then they became up, and now they are 'balanced' (although I can't play anymore), but regardless of tier and reputation I play who I enjoy, and balance will always fluctuate, so I am sure one day you will get to enjoy and op Sheeva.

This may sound weird but I went off the look. This is my first fighting game where I want to getter better and for me Ermac was easy to pick up, so for now I main him. I'm looking into learning some other characters but I've not decided on who I want to learn next.

Sub Zero was and always will be my number one dude, even if he's a side lol. Loved his look back then and still do, his concept is awesome. He can freeze people, i mean come on? How much better can it be? Kung Lao is another of my faves. Played him back in the day too. Kung is my main as of right now (used him before AND after patch), and Sub is a close 2nd. And Lao's hat is BALLIN'! In other fighting games, I go off a combination of look and move set. I have to like their model, then the way they play, eg....

SF - Dictator, Adon, Sagat
VF5 - Goh, Wolf, Blaze
Tekken - Bruce, Dragunov, Miguel, King, Etc.
BB - Hazama, Valkenhayn

So on and so forth...

P.S. If you notice, there also seems to be a pattern of "Tier Whoring" (with the exception of Drag and Miguel from Tekken) don't you think? Lol I assure you all, it's unintentional...Or is it?????? :evilgrin1:

i pick random. i pick again if i land on scorpion or sheeva. and imo they made sheeva stronger to make up for her ugliness, but i don't think anyone cares.

I am so jealous of sub zero players. I always tried to learn him but he just didnt jive with my play style. I would call myself and aggressive zoner, and I know he can do it, but he is much better when played as a pure zoner. I think that is why I am digging Ermac, Reptile, and Noob right now. I am also considering Scorpion still, just because I think he is one cool looking ninja ;D.

I use Quan Chi (no WAY is bottom tier), Shang Tsung, Ermac, Jade, Raiden, and Sub Zero. I just took everyone into practice mode for a while and saw whose moves i liked and then practiced in matches with them to see who I really liked. In SSF4 I only use Cammy. I dont know anyone elses links, chains or even all their specials and never touch anyone but Cammy. But in MK9 I feel like its not too difficult to pick a character up and learn them to the point of being able to compete in a short perido of time (though obviously a long time to master).

For me I just went to the lab, played through the arcade ladder, and played around with friends with most of the cast and see what characters I clicked with.

Pitty there is no offline scene where i live, so i have to rely on online play most of the time, which is still really bad.
I started to play every fricking character and took them to Training Mode.
One slot is secured by Shang Tsung and the 2nd/3rd spot is going to one of those listed in my signature.

How does noob stack up against ermac?
I think it's a pretty equal fight. However, I'm very average. I have read breakdowns on sub vs noob, and it seems like sub is no contest to the tar monster (all other factors being equal).

PANDEMlC

El Psy Congroo
I picked who I thought looked cool either from old MK titles or from gameplay I had seen. Occasionally though I'll play a character in challenge tower and decide to learn them.

Outside of scorpion and sheeva i like every character in the game. So far im using mileena and cyber sub. Started off with sektor and cyrax.

Used to do the scorpion thing in earlier MKs and enjoyed Ermac as well. This new Ermac just blew my mind. His style is awesome for me. I love playing a zone game, and making the opponent guess. His combos are pretty good, and hes just overall, a badass :)

I like to lock my opponent down, whether that's through zoning or rushdown. I'm still waiting for the next patch to really decide my main but so far I've liked Cage, Shang, and Quan-chi with a little Kitana on the side.

Ironically I also like quan chi. Right now my roster has gone from ermac, noob, reptile to noob, quan chi.

I wish I could play shang but I suck with him. It seems like the more I try to leave noob, the more he sucks me in.

Edit: My apologies elpollo ... was watching WNF and didnt have time to make one uber post between matches. ='(

In The Lab
I was uncertain who I wanted to settle on cause no one stood out for me as a highly unorthodox, trickery bastard until I saw Organelle triple posting like a beast
And I knew right there with all my heart....I finally found my main

My Criteria for choosing MK-characters

1. Had to be able to Slide
2. Had to have been played by Keith Hirayabashi once

So Sub-Zero and Reptile

What about noob, he has a sweet slide, and I have no idea who keith kirayabashi has played in mk9. My list is down to noob and quan chi and my roommate says my quan chi is worse then my noob to deal with.

"You no pick character. Character pick you."

Let me preface this by saying I suspect I have undiagnosed Asperger's syndrome :) I've never really thought about this, but here goes:

First for me is design. Does the character flat out look aesthetically pleasing to me. If not, NEXT! Example: I hate how Liu Kang sounds, and I have an unhealthy hatred of his face, in general. On the other end, I appreciate the work that was put into Kung Lao's original costume.

Second, is it fun to play them? If not, NEXT! Example: Kano is a nice artistic design from the NRS team, but his specials aren't really fun for me to do and see on the screen, so I put him down.

Third would be, is the character too easy to win with? If they are, NEXT! I need some sort of satisfaction out of a win. It just makes the game more fun to me, which is the foundation of playing to begin with. Example: Although Kung Lao's design is tight, he's gotta go.

Lastly, does everybody pick him? If so, NEXT! I like to pick character's that aren't made for the masses. Example: Everything about Scorpion is nice, but everybody picks him, so he's out.

So that leaves a good character design, not top tier, not the most popular character, satisfying to play as and win with. I'll adjust my playstyle accordingly.

SSF4: Dhalsim. Virtua Fighter: Goh MK9: Sektor.

As for you Organelle, based on everything I've read so far, I think you're gonna end up with Noob and Reptile.

Noob has a sweet slide but alas, was never portrayed by Keith H.
