What's new

Hey guys, quick intro and questions.

I know there's a noob section, but I had a few questions too. Anyways, I'm Sauceman. I've been competitively playing shooters since 2006 and been on several top teams on various games. However, the last fighting game I can remember playing is MK2 on Sega. When I saw MK9 come out and heard good reviews, I bought it and I love it. I'm addicted to it, despite being pretty bad as a first time fighter (essentially).

I've played around with all the kombatants, and it seems like Sub-Zero is (still) my favorite. However, I have alot of trouble winning consistently. My BNB is the 22Ice214Slide, and that's really all I do as far as combos (sometimes I switch the 214 out for 212 or 224). I have the most trouble when someone is in my face and it seems like their combo's/whiff's/etc take priority while I'm in block, because when I try to time and unblock counter I seem to get caught in their next string. Am I just doing something wrong is is Sub Zero naturally a slow "defensive" player?

Also, any good videos to watch? I've seen alot of the competitive stuff (PDP). Anything recent, as in the last week?

If you want to send a F/R and play some friendly matches to help me out I'd appreciate it: S4UCEM4N

Sub-Zero can be either played offensive or defensive, although I personally believe his defensive capabilities are a bit better than his offensive. Abuse your ice clone, you'll be surprised at how many aggressive players consistently get caught in it, allowing you to waltz up and do a full combo on them.

Against aggressive players, it's wise to space them out with ice clones and threaten them with ice blasts, make them come to you.

Yeah, I tend to play a mix of both. Alot of the time I'll spam Ice Clone and wait for them to be aggressive. However, there are times when I get into a block vs combo's situation and i can never get out. I always wait until the combo looks over and attempt to counter-combo with very little success. However, when i do the same with Noob, it works. I'm sure it's just SubZ's speed.

i've played sub alot...and i'm pretty sure he's kinda slow up close. I don't think you'll be able to squeeze in any of his nicer moves when under pressure like an ice pick or the sword...have you tried using a d+1 or D+2 (not sure which one) that little ducking jab to just poke them away, it doesn't really lead to anything but it can get them off of you
