Practice practice practice my friend.

Add some people from here on XBL/PSN, we're great for practice.

Edit: oh wait, I missed the part where you said you were on Wii U.
I forgot this game even came out for that console. You may be out of luck for sparring partners on here because of that, but we can still offer advice via skype and whatnot

Edit #2 : Make a thread, or post in one for the Wii U, that might help!

This game is more than combo's, like any fighter game is.
Your combo's don't win it all and with low damage combo's like GA you need to play more strategic than a powerhouse type of guy, You have to think and finding ways to end combo's where you can be safe to restock an Ice arrow, you need to find your play style too, I feel each characters can be player in at least 2 different ways even if it's subtle people will find what the character can do and then use the tools the way that best fits them.

It's all about time though.

Oh, it's a fellow newb! Welcome! \o/

Don't you find GA kind of hard to play as new player? I've won with him before and he's really fun to play, but he doesn't have a lot going on on the offensive side of things...

If anyone that has experience in FGs for a while, has time to go into practice in IGAU and critique my overall game, let me know.

I don't know your schedule, nor intent on how high you want your level of play to be...
That said, my suggestion is to watch every video for your character that you can find. The game is still in its infancy and watching as much footage of the game and your toon will help you not only know your character, but the engine as well.
IF a player is "terrible," you make note of what NOT to do. If you watch players who are high-level, you make note of what they do, when they do it, and try to learn why they do it. Emulating a great player is fine, but you must know the reasons for their every move. There will be some errors, as nerves play a major part in tournament play, but in order to excel in FGs you have to know EVERYTHING about your character.
Maximilian (on YT as Miles923) recently put up an exemplary video on Getting good at fighting games. I suggest you watch that first.
Otherwise, searching and sifting through vids is part and parcel with learning FGs. You can watch major tournaments and take note of who are great players, but they may not be playing your toon. (what pun?)
Truly, be thankful there ARE videos to watch. Us OGs who have played since World Warrior didn't have vids. We had to be at the arcade all the time to improve and watch others who had more skill.
Just my suggestions, take em, leave em, no worries. You have to ask yourself what level of play you are aspiring to, and go from there.
Seek knowledge, not convenience.
