What's new

I need serious help in this game

So, I purchased Injustice a few days ago, and have been trying really hard to learn this game.

I've picked up Green Arrow as my main for the moment. I went online and learned combos and such for him. I can execute them in training mode, but when I go online I get absolutely mauled by other players. It's super discouraging. I have only won one match online, and I think that was because of a disconnect.

What do you think I should do? I really wanna like this game, but I can't seem to get the core mechanics of blocking and spacing down. I get my ass handed to me every time and I wanna know what I should do to change that.

What are your guys' recommendations?

The practice mode is absolutely amazing for teaching the game. Go through the tutorial in the game as well, it has everything you need as far a how the game works. do you play on PSN or XBL

Right now I think you would benefit a lot from playing the AI, to learn what moves the other characters have and to help you figure out how to actually land those combos you have learned.

Spend a good hour or two in practice mode. And keep uping the CPU's difficulty until you win against Very Hard. Sounds mundane, but it worked for me.

Read the GA forums first and post questions where you have them. Post your specific combo in the Green Arrow forum and ask for advice on setting it up. A lot of easier combos seem to be set up by landing a freeze arrow. That's a good place to start.

Also, try playing Battle Mode a few times to try to focus on specific aspects of his play....ex. try letting the CPU in on you early so that you better understand how he is handled when someone is in your face....then go again but this time focus on zoning.

What applies to most fighting game but imo even more so for Injustice, is that you need to know the matchups. Try picking up some characters that give you trouble, even if it's only in training mode, and learn their weaknesses. There is no character that can keep pressuring you for free. Find out when and how you can punish them and work on utilizing that.

Good luck!

Winning against very hard? LBSH hard is the way to go. Very hard is ridiculous. It doesn't allow for very much error. Hard is fine IMHO. :16Bit
Dude if you can get through very hard you either awesome or using some cheap ass tricks. Anyway the AI is a great way to learn the mechanics, but don't get too use to it the AI and a real person play very differently, just think of MK9 Kabal acted really differently than a Kabal player using the Nomad Dash Cancel.

Send time in practice with the AI on starting on Med. and play Keep away and punishing, slowly increase that difficulty until the AI can no longer touch you. DO it with different characters too!!!Don't just settle with using one character, right now you may feel GA is your main, but for all you know you pick up on someone like Harley or the Joker better, keep an open mind and explore the game.

I am new here and also in the fighting game comunity. Anyway, I will tell you what I did to learn how those games works. And be aware that I am not a native english speaker, therefore there will be some mistakes.

When I first started to play I was struggling the same way as you, I could perform combos perfectly at the practice mode and against some friends, but online I was raped by other players. Then, I started to watch those players who know what the are doing, and I tried to understand why they were so different. I may be talking shit here, but one of the most importants thing I've learnt is to be patience. Once you are able to think straight througout the match, you will manage to punish whoever is playing against you and then pull off those combos you managed to perform at the training mode.

Also, when you watch some streams or youtube videos from other players you end up understanding a little bit more about footsies and mind game. This will be extremely helpful in the near future.

Hope it will help you.

GA is who I'm maining at the moment as well. If you're on Xbox, we can get some games in and I'll show you some stuff.

Every one that asends in fighting games reaches this point  your just found out that getting damage is alot easier than not getting hit.

Welcome to the world of competitive online fighting games. You will get beat up, a LOT.. But each time there is something to learn.

It's a rocky road at first.. The reason why is that people have learned to exploit their character's tools to the max vs. other people, and also how to defend against your character's tools. They're doing everything possible to keep you out of the situations where your character is happiest, and to put you at a disadvantage. So just knowing the moves and combos is not enough.

If you are serious about getting better, as soon as you can do the following:

1) Learn about fighting game fundamentals. Spacing, movement, blocking/defense, mixups, punishing, whiff punishing, zoning, and frame data. Learn about "safe" and "unsafe". Learn what "bread and butter" means and why some attacks are better than others in certain situations.

2) Learn your charcter's preferred ways of starting damage, and what their strengths are vs. other characters. If you want to win, you need to know what kind of strategy suits your character best -- and you also need to be aware of what other character's tools are to avoid falling prey to them. There's plenty of info about that on these forums and elsewhere (see anything that says "Guide" or "Match-Up Discussion"); but one of the biggest things that will help is #3:

3) Watch footage of great players playing actual matches with your character(s) and learn exactly what they're doing. Which moves they used and when; when they block and when they attack; what their overall pattern of offense is, and how they get most of their damage. This is loads better than guessing and will teach you things that would have taken forever to figure out on their own.

Don't get discouraged; it's a long road, but it's really rewarding when you beat the sleeves off of a guy who stomped you out when you first started and sent you a message telling you to quit the game :D Ask tons of questions.. Good luck!

That's another thing I forgot when get beaten ask your opponent what you did wrong, normally they will tell you what you did. Don't let emotions get the best of you either, just breathe relax and take your time, also have fun it is a game afterall

CrimsonShadow's post is really the right track if youre just starting out, but Sasuga provides solid advice as well. I was having trouble vs Deathstroke as GL, so I learned Dstroke's specials/normals in training then memorized a combo off the Dstroke forum and took him online. Just copy the way people are beating the tactic that is beating you, if that makes sense. I still lose to him frequently but I at least understand why I am losing and working towards improvement

Thanks guys :) I'm playing the Wii U version, so it sounds like I won't be able to get any help from you guys :(
Well not true, we are all here to help, we may not be able to play online with you all, but we can still give advice, what kind of controller you using, I imagine that current wii u controller is awkward

I'm using the wii u pro controller. It's the size of a standard controller, so it works out. The gamepad isn't too bad either, though.

That's cool I just haven't even touched the wii u I hear its actually a nice console just lacks games right now, but I think it just some very untapped potential

Wait your on the Wii U, okay, well I was going to say if your getting pounded by Lobo, thats normal. But Wii U = No lobo yet.

Personally, what I do is this, I pop into the Single battle mode and just start picking the characters I lost to, then I watch the PC fight. Build my strat off that. Once I start winning matches, I go up to hard, then I go back online.

Also, I find some of the combo inputs for some characters feel way off to me. (Hawkgirl I feel has a lot of give between inputs and Harley feels very tight, have to nail her perfect to get the combo to go out.) So feel around and try GA a bit.

Now final tip, here, try a few characters before you find your main. I played almost the entire cast till I settled on Harley and then sat Hawkgirl as my reserve.

Good luck, and just have fun.

Agreed. I'm sure once e3 rolls around and the games are shown, things will start to pick up for the system. But yeah, I haven't messed around with the cast much except for Batman, Wonderwoman, and GA
