Is there really a need for highs and mids? Over!

I really don't see i need for highs and mids! You either block low and this will take care of your lows and mids and duck highs or you can stand block to to take care of mids, highs, and overheads. So the only things that can really open you up is a low or an overhead, so what is the need for highs and mids? I am really ignorant on this matter I guess,would someone please explain to me why there is a need for them in the game? Thank you for your time Over!

Hit-levels don't define mix-ups.

EDIT: Highs tend to come out fast and have good recovery. Mids are the intermediates to Lows and OHs. Could you imagine projectiles only being Low or OHs? That'd take off a lot of depth in a game.

Mids exist so the game doesn't evolve into a 50/50 competition. Matches would be too loopsided at any given point.

With mids so you can fill in characters movesets without risking making them too powerful.
 
There are mids because sometimes you just want to play it safe and dish out something that makes the opponent's low/high blocking irrelevant.

There are highs because some characters would be too good with mids.

Mids and highs exist so that some characters don't have low/overhead mixups.

Low/overhead mixups exist so that some characters are better than others in certain areas of fighting.
