Yeah, he started out in Stormwatch that is not a very good series but now he seems to have found his place in the new JLA as it's leader, he even received his own series "Manhunter". Yeah, it started last month as a tie-in to the JLA comic, just like what Shazam is to the JL. It will explain J'onn's relationship with the JL (why he broke up with them) and many other things. You should pick it up

No, unfortunately. You read it already. The Obama thing was his back-up story in JLA. That's what his story will be, continued in that format. It could still be solid. The Shazam backups have been pretty good. And it's a very nice bonus to a book that I'm reading solely because MMH is in it to begin with.

I really, really wish that would happen too. The individual stories he's had before have been very few and far between, and not handled by all that great of talent. He has extreme potential as a stand-alone character. All a writer would really need to provide would be a decent rogue's gallery. And give him his own supporting cast that is his own and not other heroes or anything. Before he was the "heart of the Justice League" and kind of only had much contact with them so it made more sense. In the New 52 he's more of an independent agent, leaving him in a great spot to form a story around him specifically, and giving him people he can learn to actually trust and establish his own enemies and villains.
