Constant Down 3 Pressure

"Strength isn't everything"
Hi Guys.

I am seeing alot of kung lao players using Down 3, constantly for pressure.

Can anyone here give me a detailed spec on how to deal with a down 3?

What are my options when I am hit with a down 3 and what are my options when I block a down 3?

After the down 3, players mostly pressure for another chip damage combo, then presure with down 3 again.

Any tips would be great.

Possible solution

If it would be anyone else except Kung Lao or Raiden I cross jump them to 50/50 all day against c.3 pressure. But it’s Kung we talking about here: hard to punish consistently shoryuken which hits both sides and juggles on hit prevents you to any jumping attempts.

As a possible solution you may try to c.1 or c.3 after you blocked his c.3, then if your c.1/3 hits do your fastest move to create frame trap (if your char has fast enough move of course). You can even try to pressure with your c.3 couple of times, but it’s risky coz 98% of the cast don’t have uber shoryuken or insta-superman-fly which hits you in the air even if you already behind them.

P.s. You can always play Kung yourself: fear to be launched by spin stops any aggressive pressure in most cases.

Hey, thanks for your reply.

I worked on it today.

I beat a guy who forced me to find this stuff out, I beat him today 5-1. Thats why I asked about this, just to understand the properties.

He would always do Down 3, Down 3 , then 2 4 with Kung, and repeat.

I realised, after i block his down 3, I can jump safely.

After I get hit, I need to be defending, I didnt advance and blocked his pressure.

You’re welcome.

It’s cool that you adapted to this particular player pattern, but the thing is really good players do not use patterns. In this particular case, if you tried to cross jump his second c.3 you’d eat spin on reaction instead of it. And if you try to jump away after first c.3 in anticipation of second c.3 – it recovers pretty quickly so good Kung can either pursue you with dive kick or any of his projectile hats. So it either block him, interrupt him or Spin/Teleport/Superman him if you’re Kung or Raiden.

And it’s somewhat common knowledge: if you’ve got hit – stay blocked (not always a best decision though).
