Proper Combo Threads

As I move around from character to character, I'm finding that a good majority of the combo threads are poorly done. So I thought I would create this thread to inform people on how these combo threads should be made.

1. Keep the First Post Updated

The first post should contain all of the viable/best combos in the thread. The creator of the thread should maintain the first post when new combos are added to the thread.

This is important because if someone new comes into the thread looking for the best combos, it's very difficult to sift through the thread and figure out which combos they should be using. If all of the best/most viable combos are listed in the first post, there's no need to search through the thread.

2. Notations > YouTube

In the age of YouTube, it's easy to film a combo and just post a link to the vid. However, this is not easy for the person looking for good combos or even the creator of the combo thread who has to keep the first post updated.

Even when a combo video has the notations in the vid, you still have to watch the video to find the combo you're looking for, then pause the video when the notation appears. It's unnecessary hassle.

If you want to make a combo video, that's great. But when you post the video, transcribe the combos in the post so people can see the notations without having to watch the video.

3. Standard Notations

I don't know if the community has agreed on what notation is standard, but if you plan on posting a combo, look at the first post and see what notation is being used there. Try to follow the notation the first post is using so that the original poster can easily add your combo.

4. No Jump Punch Starters

Almost every combo created can have a jump punch starter added to the beginning. By listing the combo with the jump starter with the included damage it's difficult to determine what the real combo damage is. If you want to list damage with AND without the jump punch starter, that's fine, but listing only the jump punch starter damage is somewhat deceptive.

woof.
what about j.p? i notice lots of people tack that on the beginning of their posted combos, even though it can go at the beginning of pretty much any combo. does that first hit/extra 2% count?

edit...our poor kitana thread needs an update badly. :(

Good call. I forgot about that one. Adding it to the OP.

As for the Kitana thread. I didn't start it, but I've been trying to keep it updated. I need to give it another update with the stuff that's been added over the last page or so. But even then, we'll have to wait for the OP to add it to the first post.

Really good point!
I think many Combo threads are outdated anyway because of the hotfix and now the patch.
I'd volunteer to make and maintain a Smoke Combo thread, under the condition that europe gets the patch anytime soon.

Great post, should we maybe start new threads with a specific title like official combo thread, and see if we can get them stickied? I'd be willing to keep a couple characters up to date.

The problem is that most of the combo threads have already been started by people who either don't post much or aren't keeping the threads updated. Also, this thread isn't very visible, and even the people who have seen it haven't made an effort to impact their character combo threads.
