Signing in Player 2 (on PSN) on Local Multiplayer? (PS3)

I got the PS3 version of Injustice and I'm playing with a friend local. For some reason, Player 1 is signed in on my account, but his account is just shown as "Player 2". He's still getting experience, but we can't find out how to sign him in to his PSN account so he could maybe keep the experience. Is there a way? The account is accessible from the PS3.

Honestly I think this is something the PS3 has yet to implement. My buddy and I were trying to same thing for about 30 mins and weren't able to find a way.
