Will NRS rival Capcom if Injustice is successful?

Will NRS take itself, MK, and the FGC to new levels with injusice?

So, I was kind of thinking about this some today. As we all know, Capcom is considered the pinnacle of fighting game developers with their mainstay titles of Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom as the flagships of the FGC. Injustice, however, is coming out soon and looks very promising as a game that will unite a lot of the sects of the fighting game community. So my question is, If injustice is hailed as an insanely good fighting game, will NRS now be respected and known more on the level of Capcom?

Capcom hasnt released a "New" full version of their titles in a while (minus cross tekken) and NRS is building to the release of injustice and then planning for MK10 most likely.

Another question to add on to this topic. If injustice is successful, will more people join the MK community for MK10 before writing it off as tons have before just because of its past?

I personally think if NRS gets Injustice to be as good as its looking so far. It could become one of, if not the best community game and propel us toward MK10 and make our community expand greatly.

Discuss.

Keep in mind that this is for calm discussion over Injustice, NRS/Capcom, and the future. Keep it civil and dont turn it into a fight about "this game is bad/stupid". Thats not what this is for.

I don't think they'll rival capcom, but I definitely think Injustice can gain them a solid reputation as a fighting game studio.

I do think Injustice will boost the mk10 community a great deal.

It'll take more than one game but they'll definitely gain some ground.
Thats what im hoping. If people like Injustice, then I hope they stick around and really try to give MK10 a chance. Most people seem to write off MK just because its known as MK.

Injustice is definately a big improvement. MK9 was their first, and probably worst, attempt at making a tournament viable game. But Injustice looks pretty good so far. It's definately a step in that direction.

I mean it was their first game so there's no basis for comparison yet. It is very good for their premier title as a developer and has made EVO 3 straight years (no other non-capcom game ever has) No need to trash MK9. Just focus on the question asked.

lol. i dont care how many times it goes to evo, its incredibly broken. and i know you can't compare it to anything right now, i meant you will be able to. it'll probably remain to be their worst attempt at making a tournament viable game. i love mk. it was the first fg i became really good at. but after playing other fighting games like tekken, i see how broken and shitty it is. i mean, thats just how it is. but i like it anyway. but im glad we are moving on to a better fighting game now, injustice. and i think injustice will be liked by not just our community but people from other commuities as well. i think it'll do very well

NRS, even when they were known as Midway, was a very profitable company. Whether you liked the games or not, they sold in the millions. So profit wise, it's not even a question, NRS has always made money with their products.

Now, gameplay wise, I think NRS set up a pretty damn good foundation with MK9. As much as people from other communities hate it, anyone who plays multiple FGs usually agree that MK9 is a very solid fighter. It has it's problems(and what game doesn't really?) but it has obviously done many things right where it will be at Evo for the third year in a row.

As far as Injustice goes, I'll say it once and I'll say it again. this has nothing to do with Capcom vs NRS. Those are just the fanboys talking(which obviously this site has a ton of). This game is looking to reach out to many communities besides the ones from Capcom and NRS. I'm sure NRS did not go in thinking, "boy, only Capcom matters so screw everyone else!". I think they are looking at the bigger picture and hoping that players from games like BB, GG, Tekken and even the Smash/PSA crowds stay playing Injustice for a long time.

Cheers!

A lot of good points. Like i mentioned i hope it truly does bring everyone in. My biggest hope is that it makes people really look into playing MK10 since it will be made by NRS as well. Like you said its not NRS vs Capcom but a lot of people will boil it down to that.

so is marvel and busted SFXT....they were at evo.....

Also MK9 was them knocking on the door very hard...Injustice ,if good, will be a big boot to that door.

Guys this is not a discussion on what game is better or ass as i stated at the end of the OP. Please refrain from making it an argument based on game merits. This is just a question/discussion on NRS and the Future for them.

I never played those games but i would bet they aren't AS bad as mk. But idk

I don't think NRS could ever rival Capcom. Not bashing NRS, but I believe their games will always have that niche market and be thought of as the red headed step child of the FGC. They will always have the MK fans and I believe that is going to always be the main fans of any game they make. All current fighting games have broken ass shit, but the stuff in MK9 constantly seen in every high end tourny is just much more apparent to someone just casually tuning in to a stream. I don't know how to explain it, it's just I guess...... visually easier to see.

MK9 was the first fighter I ever played and got me into fighters, so yes, I have played mk9 a lot...more than any other fighter in my life so don't let my avatar throw you off.

Personally I don't see a new community popping up just for Injusitce or many long lasting new gamers (over a year). Plenty of new casual fans though that will stick around for a few months because of all the single player content.

Can't wait to see you proven wrong. NRS is learning apparantly and is getting better at this shit.

Street Fighter was decades in the making -- And Marvel is a few games deep. NRS is gaining ground, and it's awesome to see it. But Capcom's reputation wasn't built in a day or a game; they stand on decades worth of competitive legacy, and it'll take time for someone else to unseat them.

xenogorgeous

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
NRS, nowadays, IMO, it's the best ..... MK9 , despite all bullshit this game has, still, is more funnier and cool than all that SF4 and UMVC3 stuff .... Capcom games are way too much cartoonish, ultra colored and kid oriented .... in these times, I don't care for Capcom games as competitive stuff, their fighting games looks boring and all the same. And normally, Capcom fighting games community treat us as crap, so, fuck off them.

MK is more violent, adult oriented, more dark tone, and way better as game.

IGAU cannot be a new MK, so, they had to tone down gore and violent aspect , for very understandable reasons, so, NRS put extra effort to make the game a franchise by its own, and, by what we can see so far, IGAU overcomes MK9, bringing better stuff for competitive scene level

NRS currently is the best company regarding fighting games ..... and I don't care if Capcom fanboys wish me "go fuck yourself to hell" because my statement, hehe :D:cool:

Fully agree with this right here.
