My first impressions of the Injustice DEMO

Thread is tl;dr. Read Juggs' first post, then skimmed through until I saw a bunch of no names dismissing GGA 16 Bit aka "a guy who actually knows things", had a Vietnam style flashback to early MK9, calmed myself, and am now posting this before I go to sleep:

1) I don't care what anyone thinks about the balance of a demo, not even Juggs. The build we get on the disk in two weeks could (99% likelihood that it actually will) be entirely different.
  • 1a) It's not even like there could possibly be any metagame developed from this demo. It's three characters with an SNK boss NPC at the end of the arcade ladder. And again, will be entirely obsolete in two weeks.
2) LOL @ anyone saying any aspect of anything is "too weak/strong/good/bad/slow/fast/broken" at this point. Seriously. El-oh-goddamn-motherfuckin'-EL.
  • 2a) And preemptive LOL @ anyone saying any aspect of anything is "too weak/strong/good/bad/slow/fast/broken" at any time BEFORE at least six months after April 16th. Are people's memories seriously this short? No one remembers that when MK9 came out we had a largely good game with a challenging and promising metagame that was turned into rock/paper/scissors on the shortbus in the shortest order possible because dickhead scrubs thought they knew what was broken in less than three months after release despite not having a) competitive experience or b) a general clue.
How about we all take a blood-oath to actually let what could quite possibly be the most brutally awesome fighter ever made actually have a chance to develop a real metagame before we launch campaigns to implement huge changes like dash-cancels? Please? PLEASE?

If anyone wants a non-MK9 example of the patchgods bending to the will of the great uninformed: Soulcalibur V... Viola. Technically challenging character to use, was patched like six weeks into the game to have her damage output basically doubled because Viola players were terrible at that point and couldn't beat Nightmare. So we ended up with a fast character with crazy pressure and meterbuilding ability that can virtually 100% you off a 3B for full meter. But it was six weeks into the game so she was woefully unexplored, thus people TOTALLY MISSED HER INFINITE. Now she's banned.

Does anyone want to sit there and tell me that there's a single fucking Viola player out there that thinks it was worth it to campaign for those buffs? And in the process they essentially forced every serious player that wanted to use her competitively to swallow a suicide pill due to their blind ignorance and impatience. All because they opted to speak from the ass rather than the brain.

The true golden rule is silence. And seriously, some of you are typing shit like you know what you're talking about.

Significant combos definitely have a tighter window to connect in and I love it. Those that have only played MK 9 should not lose hope so quickly if they keep dropping combos. Grind it out and practice for a while, and it will come to you in time.

I'm loving this game, so far. And I haven't even tried WW or Lex yet.

I agree wholeheartedly with this so far. I feel like Doomsday is a necessity to deal with zoners, he seems like the only one tough enough to say YOLO and rush shit down effectively with that trait of his. I really hope that we're wrong.

Shorter dashes is really all I ask for. I don't like the idea that I have such a huge window to get punished just because I wanted to move more than the length of a fly's dick with Lex's slow ass walk speed. There is no meta game yet though, so maybe these obnoxiously long dashes have a point we'll see in the full game.

For what it's worth, the demo is great for its purpose. Not much else can be said other than trying to understand the basic need for spacing in this demo that, right now, looks to be different than any other game.

yo lex is fine , his damage on one or two moves seems a bit off , 2 scud missiles in the face should do more than give u slight twinge ,
his d1 is dodlike look at how good all his stand alone moves are , he has like 4 diff versions of sektore b1 .. lex is fine yo

You guys gotta realize this isn't mk where you can just dash block to cover space. You don't dash much in AE because of this and you actually have to pick and choose when to dash. Zoning will be strong if you can't figure out ways around it, but that's a general statement to all fighters.


And let's stop comparing how the meta will be by the way we play the AI on hard. Ffs..
 
I've literally only had about 20 minutes to play, but I thought the dashing was a bit weird aswell. The invincibility Doomsday had when he just backdashed away from my attacks when I was clearly hitting him was pretty annoying.

45 minutes to clear ladder on medium
Best combo was smoke's smoke ball-air throw

Day one injustice demo:
One continue for very hard ladder

If you could dash cancel into normals there would be like 85% combos. Or they'd have to completely tweak damage scaling or just change how juggling works in general.

But yeah. It does seem like zoning is going to be way OP. lolol Kenshi.

Hit confirm your approaches and dash up during recovery or bait out a projectile and jump over it to punish. Everyone has at least one ranged attack in this game and projectiles don't cancel each other out. Zoning will be good and I know I'm gonna put what you said into the forefront of my offense since I'd already come to this conclusion when I saw projectiles not canceling and saw Arrow had some of the fastest, but if I commit to zoning you can jump over it and some EX stuff will go through it with hits of armor. Heck Doomsday and Lex have armor to get in with period. It'll come down to reading your opponent IMO. Zoning is good, but its yet to be seen if it will be unfuckwithable-tier for best offense.

Didn't folks think Stryker was gonna be insane at some point?

Is anyone having problems with jump in punches on cross ups and general. I try and do them to get my combo goin but it always whiff. Is there a secret to not have them whiff?

I honestly don't think crossover JIP's work in this.
You can hit them from on top of them and it crosses over though.
Batman can cross you over on a dive kick too

Shoutouts to Pig of the Hut BTW. His posts on page 2 sum up everything really. Staying on top of folks and nonstop punishing with offense. Get in that ass son. Play the AI on very hard, watch, learn, and evolve your approaches and punishes.

Cross over JIP is dead in Injustice, unless you count WW's IAD, that's the only sort of jump that turn around for a gauranteed cross over it. everyone else has to use conventional cross ups via shallow jumps. The good news is it looks like everybody's j3 is beastly for cross overs, the bad news is most of them cause a splat or knockdown so it limits your follow up options.

I don't think its going to matter any. Anti air is FABULOUS in this game. You start hopping around up close, WW will d2 you into big damage.

You can hit them from on top of them and it crosses over though.

lexs axe is sick for crossovers man u can input it as your over their head then bf 2 for 20% lol

I'm guessing you're not an SF player. You just have to think about it differently, be aware of your opponents anti air options and plan your jumps accordingly instead of just going for the JIP after knockdown because half the cast can't do anything about it but block.

WW, for example, can use her air dash to scoot in just over the opponents head. If you space it right, you can plan to come down right in front of them or behind them from about half screen away. I find its better to try this in Sword stance combos, because most of her stuff there leaves her at better advantage (on hit). Naked, you should try to come in lasso stance, becasue if they try to contest your dashes, you can use the dash punch (depending on your incoming angle) to shut it down.

I haven't explored bats or luthor much better, but I'm sure they have simnilar options.

seriously lex is sektor , try this close mine dash in throw , he does the exact same animation as sektors up missile throw , i fuckin love this guy :D
