Alt Character Swaps?

I've been lurking on this board for awhile now and a thing keeps popping up that I just don't understand why people think the game will have it. I'm talking about character alts where exactly did this idea come from that would make so many people believe that certain characters will have complete character alts. It's an interesting idea but I've seen no evidence to support this as even being a possibility. Anyone want to help clarify what this actually means and why people think it is going to happen.

I'm a big FG player and although I have not played the newest Mortal Kombat (yet) to my knowledge no fighting games out there have complete character alternate costumes...unless you count a character cosplaying or cross-dressing in the clothing of another character...I have not seen complete character alts before and although the idea is brilliant I think people are over hyping. I'm pretty sure that it would be just as much work for developers to do character alts as complete characters and if they were going to do alts why not just release them as full fledged characters like so many other fighting games do? They could advertise a huge roster as one of the appeals to the game.

I am sorry but I highly doubt that there will be a Powergirl/Supergirl alt for Superman or Batgirl alt for Batman...it would cost more and wouldn't be as marketable as just making each of them their own character. Just my two cents...is there evidence of this or is this just fan wishful thinking?

Ed Boon or someone said that it was a possibility in an interview that characters would have alt skins especially if there was high demand for said character. Its been done before with Ryu/Ken/Akuma in mvc 1 and in some of the Dragonball Z fighting games I'm sure other people have done it as well, I don't think anyone thinks it is all that likely to happen but its something to talk about

Some of the alt costumes in MK9 have different hitboxes and some Moves have different properties as well

I think people have gotten their hopes a bit high with this particular snippet.

Like, there's a very different thing between other Flashes and characters of a totally different gender/kind of similar powerset.

I remember an initial backlash against the human variants of the cyborgs being different from their counterparts, so NRS might not be so keen on drastic changes like that.

Well I would imagine if it happens, it would be paid DLC down the line.

I'd pay for this kind of DLC. Just saying. My wish list is pretty long though for character alts.

• Flash-Kid Flash, Impulse, Zoom, Dark Flash
• Batman-Azrael Batman, Batgirl
• Nightwing-Robin, Red Robin, Tim Drake Robin
• Deathstroke- Ravager
• Green Arrow-Arsenal, Speedy, Female Speedy
• Superman-Powergirl, Superboy, 90's Superboy,Supergirl
• Green Lantern-Kyle Rayner, Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Simon Baz, Jon Stewart
• Lex Luthor- Steel (I could see it working and he'd be awesome with those moves. Plus ax=hammah. Smaller hitbox so I guess smaller damage to compensate for that buff.)

• The Joker- Rorschach (brutal abuse of everyday items. Fits really well honestly. Just change the pie throw to mud or kitchen grease)

Doesn't sound too bad, actually. And that's because Nightwing uses melee and combi-sticks and Red Hood uses melee guns. Now, if you're talking about Nightwing and Red Robin, then that would actually make sense because they have similar fighting styles.

Well, it would make sense for characters like Superman/Power Girl ... but for others it wouldn't b/c they don't use the same type of gadgets or powers etc...

and plus, it would be harder than just doing alternate costumes b/c those are just reskins. Wouldn't have to have entirely different character models for a Power Girl character or what have you? IDK... just wondering.

It does sound good, considering the swaps would have the same powers, Nightwing into Red Hood doesn't make sense but a Power Girl for Superman or a Batgirl for Batman or a Lantern for Hal or Zoom for Flash would make complete sense especially if anyone of the swaps appear in story

I want Superman's alt to be a different version of himself...not a completely different character with similar powers.

With that mindset, lets ask NRS to put Frost in MK10. Then they can just have Frost's alternate be Sub-Zero since they hold similar powers.

I agree with that. If anything, they would have Supergirl/Power Girl be a DLC character and have Supergirl/Power Girl be a Costume swap

It's not really grasping at straws when it was Ed Boon that suggested that he'd like to do similar characters as skins (other iterations of Robin for Nightwing/Reverse Flash or Kid Flash for Flash).

That said, I'm of the opinion that genderswaps for different characters or completely different powered/ability characters as alt skins is unlikely. I don't think there's anything wrong with proposing, for example, a Kyle Rayner or John Stewart skin for Hal Jordan, since they've said that it's completely within their ability to do different voices for skins (and then demonstrated this via the Arrow GA skin).

I'm a huge Sub-Zero fan if they made one of his alts Frost I'd have no problem with it, its not like its only 1 alt per character in this game

I would love a Wally West Kid Flash for Flash. Ravager for Deathstroke would be cool too. Robin for Nightwing. Red Arrow for Green Arrow, any other green lantern for Green Lantern.

I can see why people would like and agree to this, after all, we just want out favourite characters in the game, in some format, and this seems like a very quick option, as most of these willl never be developed because they are too deemed "too simliar" and the cost to completely design and balance a new toon is too expensive. This might be the best well ever get.


E.g. I dont really care for Superman, but if Powergirl is not a DLC toon, and they could make a gender palette swap with some slight changes to animations, I would love her as a skin, rather than no toon at all. Its just a fanboy wish, realistically you could do it with the below. etc etc

• Zod ( maybe a charge attack or sunstone crystal move)
• Bizzaro- fire breath and ice vision.

It's a cool list, and I agree with most of it, but in what world could you have those guys as alternates? Black Alice has an amazing power set that would just be wasted on being a Black Adam clone. Lagoon Boy is very little like Aquaman and while I admit Damian could play the same as Nightwing... he's a lot smaller, wouldn't it mess with Hitboxes.

The rest seem alright though, or I don't know enough about the character you listed.
