I don't speak in real life.

My voice is used two or three times a day. I don't trash talk really at all either.

Only times my voice is used is at shows. That said I do love sending GGs to people who ragequit.

I see people on this glorious website day in, day out complaining about playing online. "It's too laggy." "You can't do that offline." etc. etc. Can it really be that bad? Our back to back EVO champ plays exclusively online until tournaments. If it's that bad how can one rely on crappy netcode then go out and win the biggest tournament of the year...twice!?!!?

Discuss.

Ok I'm not even going to read this and tell you...YES, IT IS THAT BAD!

Edit: Now stop trollin' and start making some productive Injustice threads damnit.

lol I'm not trolling. I'm seriously starting to expect people are exaggerating and blaming online play for everything is all.

Its a little to late in the game to be asking silly questions like that..

Online is garbage bro

Maybe at EVO he thinks he is playing online and mashes two well-known directional buttons to the victory, kappa.

Dude it's serious for me, I can't play this game the way I fully should be able to because of online. It's little things, people cross me up, I go to d1 anti-cross up, they JIP full punish me because by the time it comes out I'm getting stuffed. Punishable moves that I constantly can't punish because I'm playing underwater. Scorpion is one of the best characters to play against me online because I can't even fuzzy guard b2. I will still play online all day because it is all I have here, but I can think of at least 3 tournaments where in the end it has come back to haunt me.

Crossovers are unblockable combo starters online.
Input bug more prevalent
Counter-poking impossible
Jip sometimes unblockable
Ability to jump out of frametraps
Frame data out the window

Yes it's bad, but that doesnt mean if you know your shit offline that you can't go online to get a little MU experience. You have to know what to take from it and not limit yourself by abusing the lag

Online is bad.. It can be less bad with the following

Don't play randoms
Don't play people with bad connections
Find someone with a decent connection and run extensive sets with them
Play online to learn stuff, not to win.
AAing crossovers is a JOKE online lol. Enjoy all the teabagging, RQs and Ragemail that soon follows. I've been called a virgin so many times on XBL that even my 4 year old son is beginning to wonder where he actually came from... And PL doesn't play exclusively online until tournies I don't think.

I thought PL said he only played the ladder on expert since he has no offline scene. Meh, things change though I guess.

But... Yea. It's pretty bad lol. I only have fun online when I'm playing for social reasons.

Its not as bad as people say imo. The only problem is that both people need to be on good wired connections. Wireless really fucks it up for MK. The people saying "you can't do that offline" shit are taking online way too seriously. What I did was keep trying to play like I would offline and deal with losing to bullshit. I used to get frustrated online because people got away with so much. I decided to accept it and try different mix ups, work on reactions, etc. Believe it or not, if you can react to something online then you'll be able to do it quickly offline. The main reason I leveled up so much was by playing online.

I try to stay away from MKU because of the online players there taking it too seriously. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the site but I can't deal with people getting hyped over beating me online. All I play online now is for counter poking, punishing d1's, reads, etc. The only time I'll play 100% serious is if people ask me to give them match up experience. I wont play kabal like I would 100% offline since they came to me for experience. What I usually do is do flow chart gimmicks, pressure, zoning, etc, until they start punishing me for it. In the long run it helps me out as well because it gives me room to try a few things to see how people react to them. I don't give a shit about losing but not all people can be like that. I understand its a competitive game so there will always be people that actually want to win 100% of the time.

That being said, I'm always down to give kabal mu experience on PSN. I only play when I can play on a wired connection. I refuse to play on wireless

If you can get used to the timing then you can get pretty good online, but offline is an entirely different game.

Biggest thing about online is how it skews frame data. Liek Zoidberg747 said, if you know what to take from it, it can be a good tool. But don't think you're getting a full understanding of how the game works at a competitive level by playing online. If you play people who knwo what to respect as far as frame traps and what not, it can be OKAY. But offline is still a whole different animal.

If you have enough experience in both arenas to be able to go back and forth, and can learn to not take losses seriously when it's due to lag....go for it. But if you're gonna play online for match up experience, I highly suggest playing those matches offline as well with someone to get a feel for how shit really goes. just my $.02

OH!
RedRaptor10 brings up a good point, and this is the primary reason why I practice certain things online...TIMING/ REACTIONS.

Online, you need to input things considerably faster in relation to eachother(if that makes sense) due the input delay/lag. Its like playing with weights on. Then when you get offline, you will notice that you have what seems like an ETERNITY to input AA's, convert air-to-airs etc. The down side to the difference in timing is that it can really fuck up your poking/counterpoking timing. But like anything, being able to go back and forth between the two just takes practice.

So in essence, competitively....YES it is THAT bad. But it still has it's uses if you know how to use it. Think of online play like a tool and not something that reflects your skill or feeds your competitive identity/ego.

I dont buy the whole "Kano, Reptile and Mileena are god tier online" but Cage is beyond lame with F3 pressure.

And KL teleport seems impossible to punish with d1 online.

Those two characters are my only online gripes.

EDIT: Smoke is also pretty bullshit online.

Kano, and Mileena maybe not, but sometimes playing online reptile makes me think enhanced dash is an unblockable move. Gotta love that mentality of online derptiles - dashes, gets blocked, dashes again.

Online is just a diff game, thats all. If you view it as MKOnline instead of MK9, youll probably enjoy it. I think the frustation comes from people doing things that "shouldnt" work in mk9. But like i said, mkonline is a different game. Makes me better about it.

It's awful if people don't have a good connection/Player/Ranked matches.

PL doesn't exclusively train online, he said he plays AI in training mode. A good portion to being a good fighting game player is your mind not the fighting game itself. Just cus you can pull of combos doesn't mean you will perform well.

I used to hate fighting online derptiles, but with CSZ I can punish a blocked elbow with 11 ice ball. CSZ standing 1 is 9 frames. I can't seem to punish it with Kanos standing 1 which is 9 frames, but I can punish a blocked elbow with upball (8 frames). Once you start punishing these scrubs spamming elbows, they fall to pieces. Generally, a good normal or special falling under the 9 or less frame mark, should be enough to punish that crap.

I figured everyone played the AI in training mode. I just know myself and several others on this site have played him for hours on end online.
