I live in Minneapolis and am die hard MK. If there were a weekly I would try to go to it. I'm pretty busy with grad classes and teaching full time but I would love to see something starting up in the Cities area.

Hey there. I'm going through tym posts looking for more minnesota players. Are you still in Minnesota, still playing mk?

I'm trying to collect any and all MN MK players that are here on TYM. A couple of us are just finding our way into the existing fighting game scene in Minnesota and would like to contribute, try things, maybe get some stuff going.

For now lets tag anyone that might be interested, that lives anywhere at all close to Minnesota. We can use this thread just to get the attention of MN players, and also gather names and information. We can also share ideas about what we'd like to do to level up.

Here are the people I know of so far:
Sultani
BC_Rayman
Spletty
rotanadan
B Pryme
@Shizzzam

BC_Rayman are your friends from Austin and Albert Lea on here yet? Everyone else, if you want to, please tag any other mk players in MN that might want to help, fight, what ever.

***I'm seeing that Shizzzam didn't tag, I thought he was on here???

Sadly no. They keep not getting on when I tell them to. I think one might be a lurker on the forums, though. Just a hunch. I'll see if I can convince them. I'll get at least my Mileena/Baraka buddy on here soon.

I think my personal biggest problem is a lack of Matchup experience, and here we have a wide range of mains and alts at our disposal. If we can make more of these monthly events, we'd have a Kabal, Cage, I think I saw KL, Sub Zero and Smoke from B Pryme, Cyrax, Skarlet, Shang Tsung, Sonya, Mileena, Raiden, Baraka, Jax, Kenshi and Sektor. All we really need to be a viably well versed group is a Kitana main...and maybe Reptile.

And I was serious earlier about the streaming stuff. If you guys can come up with some kind of idea of what we'd need for a streaming setup, I'd be willing to pay for most if not all of its components.

As for tournaments, me and the Austin/Albert Lea crew are all going to Frosty Faustings next month, so we will most likely not be able to make the monthly event due to an ass ton of driving. If we make it on stream though, expect shoutouts for MN. ;D

-----------------------------------------------------

On an unrelated note, we should come up with a sexy team name. Like Kombat Houston, or GGA, EGP, VSM, etc. That being said, my first vote is cast on ETA - Estimated Time of Awesome. It's lame, but it's a start. If you guys can come up with anything else, lemme know. :)

I like the enthusiasm! Recording/ streaming is a good idea. I had my wife recording my matches for me last weekend but I don't think she wants that job every time.

It may be a little early for team names lol. But again, I like where your heads at. Lets see where this goes and what we can get going. One thing that I think would be good would be a monthly casuals, possibly a week before the monthly tourney. The thing I need at the moment is experience offline, not necessarily first to 2 wins tourney experience, but lots of matches. I have 6,000 ranked wins on xbl with my main, but that translates to a shit ton of inaccurate muscle memory that needs to be corrected. I just need lots of offline matches so I can do the stuff I'm used to doing online.

An idea I had that could work if we get some more people who are interested, is using the party room at my apartment in St. Louis Park. Its free other than the deposit, and is probably 4 times as big as the space the actual comic shop that the tourney is in (Not that we need the space, I'm just sayin, it would be plenty of room). Maybe we schedule a saturday to spend a whole day leveling up prior to tournament weekends. Only problem is I've got 2 xboxes, no ps3, and no lagless monitors, although I will be getting one in 2 weeks. So I'd need help with setups.

I don't know a whole lot about streaming, like how to, what the best options are, etc. But I do have the money for one. My girlfriend recorded one of my matches as well. But it would be easier if we could just archive everyone. I like seeing where I go wrong/right in a match.

Maybe if we actually make it out to some majors we'll think about team names. And I was having difficulty with the screens there as well. I have like...125 wins to 260 some losses on PSN (the people I play are very good, most of my wins come from luck/scrubs. XD). That's legit. :D

Your idea for the party room is a good one. We'll just have to get some people to fill this space. I have a PS3 and an HDMI cable, so no worry about that. I also like the idea of casuals. The only problem is that I have to do a lot of driving and I don't have a lot of free time, so I would most likely not be able to make it up there two times a month. :/ But it's definitely a good idea for people who happen to live up there. Perhaps I can come up the night before a tourney so we can run a long set? Possibility, I suppose. Not trying to be a creeper, lol.

Right, the proximity makes it challenging. Lets just keep talking about it, we'll see what comes from it.

Sounds good. If you are able to get a hold of the other guys from up there, that would be cool. I'd like to have some of their input on this as well. But I feel our best chance is getting our tourneys on tym, like the guys in Chile. Create some interest and let people know that MN isn't totally barren when it comes to MK. So if you or someone you know has the knowledge to get a stream/recording setup, I will endorse it. If top players know there is an offline scene here, who knows? Maybe we actually could have a major here someday. (well, unlikely. But SoCal regionals did something like that.)

I'm diggin this MN action. I don't think he posts but SumptuaryPiano7 is from Minnesota as well. We should make a thread for that mn monthly and ill try to make it when I can. Only like a 3 hour drive.

I'm down for whatever, and I will be dragging ryan/shizzzamm with me as well. Our problem is that we only play on xbox, we have to get used to the ps3 stick, Johnny that idea about your room sounds awesome, and I can try and help organize some guys to come.

A few of the MN mk guys are only on the SRK forums such as rocksteady, but he is trying to get back into this game.

And in all seriousness bleys, me and ryan played like shit at the last tourney, we both literally use 99% of the cast well (minus jade and sindel), so if you need matchup experience we got you. Like I said before we really need to get a converter to use a ps3 stick on xbox, and I need to get a system :), or ryan was talking about getting a converter for his 360 controller on ps3. Either we were both down to play whenever and keep this scene alive as long as possible.

I use like 6 or 7 characters, but I was only rocking Kabal and kind of Sektor for this last one. Hopefully we can get some more casuals in this time rather than just our tournament matches.

Johnny2d, feel free to add me to your list of MN players. Minneapolis local. I have a variety of resources available for streaming teams, or for getting you up and running on your own (depending on what you're after). We can talk about that at some point.

Sadly, I don't have much time for casuals outside of the tourneys I host, but I am making a concrete effort to get back into MK now that we've got a sizable number of players again. Shang is "since EVO 2010" level rusty but if y'all bare with me we'll get you back to suffering some Legends of the Hidden Temple on a regular basis.

The next monthly is on Feb 16 and you can find more information on Facebook via this link:
https://www.facebook.com/events/339155966199532/

I moved MK to later in the day in the hopes that it'll make attending easier for those of you that have to drive.
I'm looking forward to some bloodshed.

Thanks for offering the help with streaming. We need to get some casuals going before we get ahead of ourselves with team names and streaming and all that jazz. Also, thanks for considering the drive times for the people coming from out of town.

In case anyone is interested in beating Skarlet:

I have more fun playing against people that know the matchup. Strangely, most of Skarlet's mind games don't work unless the opponent knows them too. Also, we are wrking on a skarlet guide that should be done shorty, its got everything you could imagine for a character. I'll post links here for everyone once that's done.

And... Here is the guide:

One of the best MN players is a Kitana main, but he hasn't been at the last two events. He's won I think 3 or 4 times.

I don't think he's on here, but he replies if I harass him on FB. :)

Oh and Rick, I made a thread and copied the comicade info into it in the general discussion. Will probably get moved inot here, but whatev.

Let's be serious here, I know you're busy but if you got your shang back into evo form, you would be one of the best shang players in the world.
