Also, i believe that you're retroactively perceiving that the movies were better then because you grew up with them and they are shaped in the foundation of who you are. You children, however, will grow up with these movies and undoubtedly perceive them as classics as well.

Yes. Your tv is refreshing 60 times a second, so a film shot in 48fps will be refreshed as such.



I imagine that if this is 3D in theatres that they are using passive technology, which means that the frames are not alternating between eyes to create the 3D effect. Instead, passive technology uses polorized lenses (each eye gets a different polorization that receives the light intended for that eye, but blocks the light intended for the opposite eye) to achieve the effect. In the case of passive, screen resolution is the compromise, not fps. Because of this, increasing fps will not alter the 3D effect in any way.

The info that it was done in hopes for less headaches from the 3d is coming from a talk given by the director of vfx on the hobbit at last years siggraph. Not sure why it's the case, just passing along info. I'm a 2d master, this 3d business is more than I can handle. Too many D!!!

So just saw it in normal 24.

Honestly, I don't think I liked it very much, it was just a lot of nothing.
Really should not have been 3 movies, hell it shouldn't have been 2, just one long movie would have probably worked.

29.97fps is the standard for NTSC. However, film is shot in 24fps--this was the case even before HD, so 24fps for film is nothing new. The way that they convert films to play on NTSC is very interesting--it's known as telecine, but I don't know a whole lot about it. I imagine that they play a frame twice to make up the difference in refresh, but I think that may cause an audio hiccup over a period of time.

Most of those movies came out before the mid-2000's. (2004-)
Either way, movies like 28 days later, 127 hours, Limitless, Munich, and others you two listed are not classics.
They're fun to watch but don't hold a candle to the many films of the previous generation.
The classics are those films which have significantly impacted cinema.

And I did grow up with those movies. I thought they were great until looked back.

I saw it normal 2D, was going to see it 3D but more more money and i read the 3d movies of late were making people sick.
Personally, I think the 3d notion is overhyped. like games, i mean who played mk9 on ps 3d? lol

But I agree, the movie or part 1 was so epic imo nobody should care about fps. The movie is what counts and it was epic. To me the 3d, blu ray vs dvd, fps etc is mere petpeeving. I do not care about that stuff, seems trivial to me. Everything these days is already HD. Icant wait for part 2 and 3!

I wish directors would realize that video quality doesn't necessarily help their movie. It can take you out of the experience. Just like music that is too clean and digital. You lose the soul.

I'm not saying there aren't ANY good movies made today, just not the same as back then, and I agree, there were bad movies back then, just not the caliber of shitness as today.

Oh sorry, I was testing something. Yeah, Avatar is a movie that is mainly loved because of the visuals and quality of the video.

But completely beyond that point, trying to improve the video quality past what it is now isn't a problem. As equipment gets better and cheaper it's worth trying to get better visually otherwise we're stuck were we are forever. This movie doesn't come off as some "hey, this is in 48fps! It'll knock your socks off" marketing ploy. It's more of an experiment.

Ok Green, I will agree with you to a certain point about TV. I'm a huge fan of The Walking Dead, Dexter, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The League, Boardwalk Empire, etc etc etc.

I will defend TV back in the 80's when it came to shows like The Wonder Years, The Nickelodeon line up during the late 80's early 90's. Look at what PLAGUES TV today (not talking about cable really). REALITY BULLSHIT EVERYWHERE. Stupid shows like Cake Wars, Project Runway, Jersey Shore, Pawn Stars, Keeping Up With The Kardashians......etc etc etc It would go on forever. I'd say cable TV is amazing right now, but normal TV has never been worse than it is today, it's pretty god awful, even sitcoms are pretty shit now compared to when we had Seinfeld, Cheers, Frasier, Wings.

I will argue with you about the effects being "better" in I am Legend compared to 80's movies.......no sorry. The original Star Wars movies look more realistic than that shit movie. This was a time where people, wait for it.....BUILT sets, costumes, and used practical effects to create a world, not just put things in a computer. Star Wars felt way more real than I Am Legend.

Saw a film a year or two ago where some guys go diving in some caves or something, it was shown on IMAX which was supposed to be the best visual quality for a film at the time.

I don't remember the name or anything about the film other than them doing some diving in a cave, it wasnt even that good.

Production and visual quality is nice, but it doesn't effect the overall impact a film will have, hence i just remember it looked nice and dont remember a fucking thing about what happened.
