How do we feel about mirror matches?

Topic says it all There are no right or wrong answers here. Personally, I tend to loathe them. But Jade undisputedly has the prettiest combos. Fact.

And as I mentioned earlier, players can have such drastically different play styles with her. Sometimes you see really cool stuff or get good tips.

So I think the Jade mirrors are starting to grow on me. Thoughts?

Sonya mirrors is probably my favourite MU. Mirrors in general are always good to play. You always pick up a thing or two from the other player.

I had a thread about this at one time, but it got deleted during the site crash.

I'll just say what I've been telling players for years now: there is no better way to prove a player's superiority with a character than mirror matches. They test your knowledge of the character you control. There's also the matter that you pick up on new ideas that you've never thought of before. Maybe it's just me, but the greater majority seem to hate mirrors, much to my confusion.

I simply don't enjoy them. Fighting against every other character is fun because it's so varied. Mirror matches just have the more of the same going on all the time. Unfun.

Aside from a few where the matches really slow down, i enjoy playing mirrors. Usually when i see someone pick the same character as me online i think "free win."

mirrors are fun to play when youre trying learn from the other player,
played some ermac mirrors against Error , they were good games, but ermac mirrors are so boring!!! mainly because forcepush makes the game cheesy! its like ermacs are magnets that keep pushing each other away, lol.

aside from that it was a pretty cool playing someone who knows how the character works and escapes setups that other characters have no clue what to do.

mirrors are stupid because when you play a match you want to space everything in your advantage, in a mirror match you cant do that because youre both always in the same situation. you dont have anywhere to go to as well to be at advantage, because you play the same character

I've only played the Sektor mirror once at mlg columbus. It's a limited match, since sektor has the best tools to beat sektor... besides Sonya and Mileena.

Mileena mirrors are terrible. Against bad players, I just wait for them to do a random roll and punish, but against a good player it usually turns into a standoff waiting for the other guy to do something unsafe.
But Sindel mirrors are the worst things in the world. I've never played a Sindel mirror that didn't turn into a jump-fireball contest. But my Sindel sucks so I don't know.
Sheeva mirrors are kinda fun though.

People hate the Sub-Zero mirror, but I can never get enough of it. That's where I feel the most competitive and, dare I say, cocky in.

My Ermac mirror against Moe was intense as hell. Its character dependent, or maybe not, but you really need to take a completely different mindset when playing a mirror. We were both afraid to tkp each other in the match because if it gets blocked its punished with a tkp. Mirrors for me force me to play differently. Do I enjoy mirror matches? Not really. You don't know how stupid your character is until you have to play against them.

well yeah it does feel really rewarding if you manage to completely outplay the other opponent.

Sektor kan kounter zone Sektor so you get in but he also has a low crouch blocking hit box... lol.

Favor's the Life Lead game.

I'd still prefer it to Mileena or Sonya though, that's for sure..

I was tempted to only play mirrors for a while. Like even when I go to tournaments. But I realized I had a hard enough time with mastering one character, let alone thirty six. XD Mirrors are a lot of fun, though. I like having to worry about just my own tools against me when I'm using my tools against myself. I know all of their options vs my own much more than a character I'm less familiar with like Kitana or Sonya. Less like I'm testing the water in a possible 4-6 or 6-4 and more like I'm fighting a matchup I'm familiar with: exact 5-5.
