What's new

Greetings to TYM

Hello, my name is John, PSN: That__John__Guy, and I am new to competitive fighting games, though I've played casually for a long time. I play PS3 Space Marine competitively, but I am looking to develop my skills at fighting games, NRS fighting games in particular. My wife likes NRS games and I do too, so it works fantastic for me. I've been pretty active in the PS3 SM community and I recognize this is a much bigger field with a wider talent pool.

Since I know it will take time to cultivate ability here, my long-term goal would be to develop skills in preparation for MK10 on the PS4. My mid-term goal would be to develop some foundation for Injustice when it releases in 2013. I am particularly interested in the improved King of the Hill mode promised. My short term goal would be to develop a main in MK9 for fun with online play. I am grateful and impressed by the willingness of high-level players to share their knowledge in detailed forum posts. I've been scanning the forums and watching videos.

I'm excited about MLG Dallas coming up. I'll be trying to follow the live stream as much as possible. Good luck to everyone participating!

Welcome, Bro. I'm pretty new here as well, but if you ever want to play some games, feel free to add me. My PSN is in my signature. :)

Thanks everyone!

I don't have strong character biases, except against Freddy, lol.

For Injustice, I think Wonder Woman and/or Superman are my current leanings, though I don't know much about their gameplay.

For MK, I am definitely looking for a 'starter' character that would be teach me fundamentals. Also, for MK9 I would prefer a character that isn't extra-hurt by online lag, which I hear can cripple some characters. I definitely don't want a 'broken' character either. Maybe one that had play-style similar to the Injustice characters I like would help, but I don't know. I probably have a lot of room to grow before the kinds of tricks that effect high-level play are going to be decisively impacting any of my matches.

Characters I am interested in: Scorpion, Jade, Skarlet+, Kenshi, Cage, Kabal+, Nightwolf.

Really, I haven't played with each character enough to form an attachment.

btw, I also play chess online.

Kenshi is hurt by online lag, but is still a threat. I highly recommend playing Kenshi for a safe, keepaway/lame game. Also, the amount of videos and information to learn Kenshi is phenomenal. Hopefully you main him!

Welcome to TYM, where dreams go to die. <3

A good starter character would be Liu Kang. Not broken, not hindered much by online lag, and he is practically in the middle of the tier-list. Liu can do zoning, pressure, and mix-ups. Kang is my immediate go-to character (along with Sektor) when my opponent tries to hidden select his fighter because of how diverse Liu Kang can be with his playstyle.

Right on! I'm happy to trade Space Marine lessons for MK lessons, lol. If you follow SM on the PS3, you know the Soul Drinkers are the undisputed #1: undefeated in the Blood Feud Round Robin, undefeated in the Ladder competition, undefeated in the Battle for Cadia Prime, both Champions of Graia won by Soul Drinkers, and so on. We might be minnows here, but we do alright in our pond. spitgun will be down too, I'm pretty sure.
