I just went on a road trip with my bf who has an XM radio subscription and fell in love with it.

I was thinking about maybe getting an SiriusXM radio + subscription for my birthday.

Anyone here have experience with satellite radio? Any internet radio fans here? The big draw for me was that it was commercial free. I've looked up a few things on Spotify and have tried the last.fm recommendation radio. Wondering what else is out there/good...

My dad's got Sirius in his car and it's pretty damn good.
First off, being the metalhead I am I love the metal channel to death.
Other than that I listen to Ozzy's Boneyard, which is like a hard rock and heavy metal channel that actually plays solid stuff.
As with normal radio it's got it's low points, but generally I find it to be MUCH better and encompasses a significantly broader range of tastes.

As for internet radio, Pandora is my shit. Never tried any other one, but Pandora has helped me find so much new, awesome stuff and I love it for that.

If you make a payment to spotify it's not bad, not the best but not bad and add free, although the free version smashes you with adds :(
Being from the UK you can listen to Radio 1 in the car and it's great, and it's available online.

I have many different tastes in music, and what I liked about Sirius is that the channels seemed really diverse and the tracklist ran deep (not just popular stuff). I like stuff like electronic, hardcore, easy listening, hip-hop - whatever.

Yeah, Spotify killed me with the ads and I didn't like that I had to log in with Facebook. Do they have "stations" or do you just pick whatever you want to listen to? The main goal for me would be to discover brand new music. Esp - foreign language music, classical, etc.

Pandora is where it's at. Once it gets dialed in in your tastes, you will find all kinds of great music

I thought it was better before they merged. Xm has o&a, and the music channels were better.. There djs didn't talk as much, which to me was the second most annoying aspect of regular radio. I still have it, the metal and rock channels are ok, and its nice keeping the same stations no matter how fast you drive. If you lube in a decent sized area they have repeaters so you dont lose signal under bridges and stuff.
