Latest UMK3 stick (progress)

Here's the latest pics of the stick I'm currently working on, it should be done in the next week or so. It's the same design as my first stick, but significantly smaller. I'll take a side by side picture of them when it's finished.

It's hard to capture what it actually looks like, cause my camera is shit without flash. The purple is pretty dark looking in most lighting, the sides will be solid black vinyl to (hopefully) balance the purple out.

I finished the woodwork on the box today. It actually turned out to be pretty complicated, since it's so small, I had to do an inlay on the front panel so I could fit the start button in comfortably. I also had to do inlays for the corner brackets, in order to fit in the lock hardware. It would have been easier to just move the start button down slightly, but the control panel was already made and I want to keep the authentic MK layout.

Now I just gotta do, paint, vinyl, t-molding, hardware. Hopefully the next pictures won't be so boring.

I pretty much finished the box today, I just need to attach the control panel and do some other tweaks. Here's the latest pics I took tonight.

Bottom (it rests on the rubber padding not the t-molding)

EDIT: Ok fuck it, I couldn't help myself. I took one picture when I just set the control panel on. I plan on getting better pictures with a better camera when everything is complete.

I planned from day one to put this stick on ebay to see what kind of money I got offered.

I used it today for the first time just to test it out, and for it being so compact I couldn't believe how heavy duty it felt. It was just as smooth and quiet as my other full sized stick, but you could also use it on your lap much more comfortably.

A side by side picture is coming soon.

EDIT: I'm also looking into embedding a metal mounting plate (steel or aluminum) to increase strength for the joystick, so I'm not known as the guy that builds sticks that break during tournaments or anything like that LOL. I've had no issues though so far (without any mounting plates) and I'm pretty hard on my sticks.

Probably somewhere between $100 and $150, it's probably safe to say $125, in parts (without a pcb). The box itself is under $100 for sure, but it's not glued together, and those metal brackets add up.

BTW, this isn't for sale quite yet, like I said I'm looking into embedding a mounting plate for the joystick (so I could sleep better at night).

Here's a few side by side pictures I took tonight on my kitchen table. I never actually set them side by side until today, the size difference is pretty huge. The larger stick weighs just under 15lbs, the smaller one is 10lbs.

The size difference looks massive in this picture...
