character loyalty vs winning

Most people have a favorite character. But some battles are really uphill battles, Does character loyalty take priority over winning or vice versa.

Lets say the decision involves no prize money as well. Just basically being the champion of an event or being a contender but not winning with a crappier character.

Character loyalty all day, I didn't choose to pick up MK so I could win. I can play to win in any game, but MK is special to me because of the characters and memories associated.

Well all I use right now is Jade and Quan Chi, two of my top 3 favorites in the series. I would definitely use them before anyone else. Why? Because I simply cannot bring myself to use a character that I sincerely cannot stand, character and gameplay wise, no matter how good they are.

Well for one, why does character loyalty and winning have to be in conflict? There are players who do extremely well in tournaments using their favorite character exclusively, no secondaries or anything to back them up.

I'm playing to win and am loyal to Stryker and Jade, will never play another character in a tournament unless they're not in an MK game, which will lead to ;_;.

Obviously if it wasn't a tournament people would go with character loyalty. IMO true skill comes from playing your favorite character and learning you bad MUs and overcoming them which takes time and experience. Nobody wants to do that all they do is pick high tier characters and win. Who knows if certain MUs are really as bad as they seem but we will never know because everyone counterpicks and very few characters are mained by multiple high level players.

LBSH, picking Kabal is always winning highly in your favor.

Unless you're fighting Jax on smaller stages, Luis Kang, or Sonya....

if freddy was low tier I would still use him its game and you should have fun playing it , and where is the fun if you use character you dont like just because he is good ?

Character loyalty at tournaments and everything. Unless it is Kabal or Kenshi, then I will counterpick. Some mathces are just a total waste of time if you use lower tiers.

I personally would like to be the best at my favorite character. Unfortunately, in this game, it's not a means to go for the win. Other games any character has a chance at overcoming a bad MU way better than MK9. So yes I believe in character loyalty but not for this game.

I figured it out...the answer to all of these threads is PICK KABAL.

I hate kabal mirrors so for that reason I main skarlet, and now reptile.

Police brutality all the way!!! My other favorite is kenshi. But kenshi is suffering from time to time because I'm trying to master Stryker lol. Last but not least smoke. So yeah loyalty to the end

Edit: I also stick with Stryker through his bad MUs..*cough* KL and Reptile *cough*

i would pick up kabal if he wouldn't wear down my dpad...so i went with kitana instead. i can't play my favorite online effectively, cuz playing kratos effectively online is just too friggen hard x.x. Them Dash cancels are just 2 hard online. if only i knew someone else who was into this game irl, i could actually get better with him x.x.

If you are serious about winning when that money is on the line, you are going to pick up a top tier character. If you don't care too much about winning and are only playing for the fun of it, then you will be loyal to your low tier main.
