According to Wikipedia:

"... Gantz is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku. Gantz tells the story of Kei Kurono and his friend Masaru Kato who die in a train accident and become part of a semi-posthumous "game" in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed with a handful of futuristic items, equipment, and weaponry..."

If you really like the "gore" of mortal kombat, like fatalities and the inmense quantity of blood spread on the floor, then I encourage you to read the manga or at least (and I think this is a better option) see the anime series. I really don't like the gore but I admit I don't hate it. The argument is interesting and will keep you captive. I don't know too much about the characters (my brother is the truly fan) but I can tell you they FIT the mortal kombat world without a doubt.​

well i'll give gantz a look, but Fist of the North Star and the Prototype characters (Heller and Alex) would fit perfectly as well.

maybe, altho before they do any of that they should make an actual sequal and revamp all the KI characters.

KI!!! how could I forget that! That could be a real possibility because you don't need to license the entire game, just a character and study the reponse of the people to it and then you could license the entire franchise ... Killer Instinct by NRS!!
