FINAL ROUND XIV March 11-13, 2011 Atlanta, Ga. - UMK3!

im all for driving up and hanging out with you guys and playing casuals in a hotel room or something, its only 30 minutes or so away from me

i just really dont like the current vibe of the fighting game tourney scene and would rather not support things like that
I'd be interested to hear what about the 'current vibe' you don't like since I've been going to tourneys for years and it hasn't seemed to change much from my perspective.

But it's probably better left for another thread.

What happened? When you went to Summer Jam you didn't even tell anyone who you were.

i dunno man it just seems like since sf4 everythings blown up and if you dont spend alot of money flying people from across the country/world in and streaming your tourney and having all this grandiose stuff then no one cares about what youre doin, it feels like some of the love has gone from it. im not like a 20 year tourney vet but ive been goin to em for a few years, and even put on a couple of my own with an alright turnout, i just dont like the direction theyre goin in. and really most of it doesnt apply to MK tournaments, its mostly SF4 and shit. people like gootecks, trying to turn fighting games into some celebrity circle with pool parties and VIP rooms and shit, its just weak

sorry for draggin this off topic

Kaballin!
I actually agree a little bit with that but with MK its different story...everything is real and this includes players, good attitude, respect tons of fun and no BS. So if you feel that the SF4 community inst for you, then you're more than welcome to ride with the MK one. Last February I decided to give it a shot and the result was: Tons of fun and great time, new friends and amazing people...cant really think of anything bad...good stuff only. Its up to you....

I agree the tournament scene is getting WWE, but I don't think it can last if it doesn't.

Gootecks has done nothing but good things for the SF4 community. I wouldn't have even been playing that game if it wasn't for him.

I also agree with Shock in that this is the direction that the tournament scene has to go in to survive. Fighting games are "it" right now and we have nowhere to go but up. Shock and others have been fighting to give MK (UMK3) the reputation it deserves and that is FINALLY happening!

Only a little over a month away people, start making plans now! Remember, Venue Entry Fee $40 for Final Round 14, so be prepared for that!

Hope you guys get at least 6 serious players to show, make sure you promote the Hell out of UMK3 while you're there and have people make announcements because generally at least 1 in 20 or so players will play the game. If there 500 players you should expect a 24ish person bracket with like 18 filler players. Sometimes you find a diamond in the rough who hasn't played in years and doesn't know about our sites or anything, but I don't see how that's possible now. Good luck guys and let us know as it goes.

I'm trying to find a way to get the sticks to you guys by Friday. I forgot it was this weekend and I just got the reminder yesterday. In case I can't get them there, if you guys decide to run on MAME, try to find a couple MAS sticks with 8 buttons, you can get away with that, otherwise on MAME, even if you have converters, chances are no sticks are going to be in a standard format that would support a reasonably similar layout to UMK3. Then again, you might not get any stick players down there and it won't be a problem.

I just got a call that my Grandpa is in the Hospital. He lives in SC and I have to drive my Father up there. I will try my best to get back by Friday, but it's really looking grim. If anyone could step in and help run the UMK3 tournament, you would be a life saver! I still could make it, but just plan on me not being there.

Always got to be something, right? I'm sorry to everyone, this hurts me double time since my Grandfather is sick, AND I probably won't be able to even make the tournament.
can anyone going help us?

I asked a bunch of people last night if they were going actually, before I knew about this. I really don't know anyone who is.
