I think I did the best I could have done. I really think I could have gotten top 3, but REO's game play was just too solid. I am not used to playing REO when he is in full beast mode, lmao.

Full match results of my matches:

1st match: Juggs vs DanCock -- 2-0 (Sheeva vs Sindel/Jade vs Sindel)

2nd match: Juggs vs Li Joe -- 2-0 (H.Smoke vs H.smoke)

3rd match: Juggs vs Shock -- 2-0 (H.Smoke vs Ermac)

4th match: Juggs vs Marv -- 1-2 (H.Smoke vs Kabal)

5th match: Juggs vs DC HUSTLE -- 2-1 (H.Smoke vs H.Smoke)

6th match: Juggs vs REO -- 1-2 (H.Smoke vs Nightwolf)

I played everyone in tournament that I wanted to play except for Crazy Dominican. As I said, DanCock was really tough for me, I was sooo nervous playing my first match. I really wanted to play Li Joe and Shock. I was hoping Shock would use Human Smoke but he went with Ermac. I wanted the best Human Smoke's going at it! Even DC HUSTLE used Human Smoke, against me at least. I just am not comfortable enough with anyone else, so I just stuck with Smoke. I think I could have beaten Marv, but I made too many mistakes. It's just so hard to beat that maniac!

Juggs this was your first tournament and you did terrific. Hold your head high man. You can say your one of the best.

EDIT: I edited your first post and added Dookiebrain in for 3rd place in MK2.

heh, jugg I really hate mirror matches, I actually contemplated using Kabal vs you but went with Ermac to keep it a teleport fest. I should have asked for a reset when Simon's stick fell over and caused me to duck, I started the round essentially down one hit, and I never should have used his in the first round of our first match. I wanted a crack at Marv in the tournament but I don't know if I could have beaten him without some matches against him first. We'll have to get you out there again so we can get more matches in. I also realized that when I was playing really well, it was when I had the stick on the bar stool, not on the table, which is a much more comfortable position. I wish I was playing the way I did on Saturday, I should have gotten in some warmups with Marv before the tournament but I just didn't have time. Over the last couple years I've had a better time watching everyone play and enjoy the same game I do more than actually playing it. I really want to see my match with NoDoubt again to see exactly what I was doing because that was pretty rough.

Yeah, I didn't really know what happened with the stick. It looked like you were trying to switch it out with another one. I was just wanting to get the match over with, I get too nervous when I play.

So when someone wins a round and then the next round a controller/stick error occurs, do you have to reset the entire match or would you just pick the same characters and whoever won the one round would get the round back and then you go from there?

Oh and I think I got the corner jab infinite on you one round too. I honestly felt bad while doing it, that shit is mad cheap. I would like to note though that it's a lot easier to do offline than it is online.

And yes, I can't wait for all of the match videos to be posted!!

It generally comes down to a judgment call based on the situation.

But usually if it happens right at the start of a 2nd round you would reset the match, give a free round to get it back to where it was and restart the second round.

It's easier in UMK and games without super or ex meters that carry through rounds, because you don't have to worry about that.

As for the nerves, playing in person at a tourney is a lot different than online, especially the first few times you do it.

Some people get used to it, others don't, but if you keep competing offline you'll eventually get to a point where you at least know how to deal with it and what to expect.

It would have been a round restart and you would retain the first round win, and since we have mame, I could have just paused it and refilled my energy bar. I switched the sticks and put Simon's on the floor too quickly and it fell over, so it was my fault, which is probably why I didn't really say anything other than to hold up to make sure everything was ok with the buttons.

I do believe you got the corner inf as well, I'd have to watch to be 100% sure since I couldn't teleport out of the corner, but I wasn't sure if it was my execution or if you had the jab pattern lock going since I had a hard time teleporting altogether, which I believe was due to the position of the stick.

I played in that national SF4 tournament in my area a couple years ago that was regulated by a specific company, and you couldn't use sticks, only 360 pads supplied by the stores. The pads at the place I played were mounted to the unit by rubber tubes, which prevent people from unhooking them. Most of the players there were complaining about how they had to stand in order to play. I actually stood with my legs almost in a squatting position against one of the better players because it was so weird playing with my hands by my waist.

You should have just said something, I was honestly too focused and nervous to realize what was going on.

I was having trouble teleporting on Saturday with the 360 controller. I'm glad I decided to go with the PS2 pad because I was doing better on it than I've ever done on a 360 controller. I'm actually going to get one of those converters you guys had so I can use my PS2 controller on MAME.

it's funny because back in my very first tournament ever, CvS2 at NEC2, I accidentally picked Haohmaru as the first character on my team, when I wanted R1 Bison, R1 Sagat, R2 Blanka. I didn't say anything then either. From now on, I think I will.

Juggs I recommend getting the inpin converter. Its super solid and its what you were using during the tournament. I know cuz it was all my stuff :)

lol, I got through two of those qualifiers for that tourney. Drove 1.5 hours to Toledo for the final qualifier and was really hoping they'd let us use sticks and it didn't happen.

I got knocked out in a match where my super didn't come out because of using that damn 360 pad.

Yeah I read that there would be no sticks allowed throughout the entire tournament. I made it through the first one, but the following weekend for the second one I had to be somewhere else and couldn't make it. I still have my wrist bands though, I wear them in wrestling matches.

Here's a pic from said tournament:

UMK3 tournaments should be 3/5, 4/7, FT7 from this point on. NEC GF over in 5min? Although it may have been a better set if CD used Kitana. This game is too Fast and Serious for short sets.

Shock and Lucky you both really need to holla at Storms at getting his SC pad compatible.

Juggs, Imma holla at Larry about blowin up UMK3 for FR14.

I agree about 3/5 for regular tourney matches.

Also, I asked Larry several times if I could run UMK3 at FR and he said no multiple times. He didn't really give a reason either and he said "maybe MK9". But please talk to him, maybe he said no because he doesn't know who I am or something.

MK11 Kabal = MK9 Kitana
I agree on the 3/5 for UMK3 tournament for regular matches. The games are over so fast. Only do 2/3 if you are pressed for time. I'm sure that in the future, there will be more stations so this shouldn't be a problem.

Honestly even with 3/5 a 12-16 player tourney (which we should really hope to be standard at any non major from now on with the support we've been seeing) doesn't even take that long on one setup.

Two setups are a nice luxury obviously, but I think the sets could be longer even without them.

3/5 only with two setups, I've done 3/5 tournaments before and trust me, it takes longer because you get a lot more 4 and 5 match sets than you do 3 match sets. Next tournament is still mostly like 2/3, 3/4 W/L Finals and 5/7 GFs. I could understand 3/5 for winners and losers semis perhaps. The players who are out in 2, or 3 matches don't want to sit through 3 losses just to be out. We're going to try two setups, one for recorded and one for non-recorded matches/first round losers/casuals.

Kaballin!
for grand finals it should be first to 5x2 then....and first to five times two can be extremely exhausting for the double dip player....

I know 2 stations will do but tournaments reaching 32+ really should have atleast 3. With the MK community is dedicated as it is 6 should be standard, 2 being casual, then 3/5 all the way through is golden.

Juggs- spoke to Larry this morning and he gave the OK for UMK3/MK2 to be ran at Final Round 14. Friday is going to be the only open day for them because SSF4, Tekken and MVC3 are probably going to eat up SAT&SUN. They are planning on running 2 streams this year and he said UMK3 will get some love on one them. Head over to www.finalround.org and lets get this shit poppin.

Juggs try to round up whomever you can to help you out. If you get players who need sticks, we can arrange something.
