On Monday, July 19th, Myself, Dark Rob, and Tim Static were privileged enough to be asked to do an episode of the Podcast, Podsumaki, representing 2D MK players and the MK Community. Shock was supposed to be on, but unfortunately, could not make it. Next time though!

The episode is very long... almost 2.5 hours long. It's worth a listen as the podcast is funny, and very informative.

Taken from:

http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/Podsumaki/podsumaki-episode-09-mortal-kombat-special-179896.phtml

Today is a very special episode with some very special guests. We've got three moderators and tournament players from three Mortal Kombat websites. They came on to discuss the classic games, the potential behind the Mortal Kombat reboot, and the recently growing Mortal Kombat tournament scene.

Your friendly neighborhood Wry Guy is running short on time, so you won't be getting any extensive notes. Be warned though. This episode is very, very long and is largely controlled by our guests. Don't worry, we're still there to talk bullshit. Unfortunately we were TOO WEAK against the incredible knowledge these guys throw at us.

Guest Hosts for this week: Philip Siegel, Timothy Lanning, Robert Schillaci
Guesting From: UltimateMK.com, ClassicMK.com, MortalKombatEmpires.com

Download Podsumaki Episode 09

Episode Highlights
- Bulkmailer and Char Aznable get their listener questions answered by the MK pros
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, the tournament worthy Mortal Kombat we never knew about
- The growing Mortal Kombat tournament scene
- Analysis and fears of why the Mortal Kombat reboot may not be good

I hope everyone enjoys it, and a very special thanks to KD Alpha, Wry Guy, de BLOO, and RAB for having us on. -Phil

I will listen when I get home later, or possibly tomorrow. Don't know how time I'll have.

Bloo, what's up? Good to see you on here! I had a blast doing the podcast bro. It was a great time. Thanks again for inviting us to do it.
Hey! Just checking out the sites, they're amazing.

I can't wait for MK9 to drop so you guys can come back on, or hell if come October the plan Tim hinted towards becomes a huge success we'd be happy to have you guys back on.

My virus software goes nuts when I click on that link.
Yeah the site just upgraded so there's a bunch of problems right now.

I just want to thank you guys so much for the great job you did on the show and I'm sorry the schedule clash prevented me from being a part of it but this is why it was better than I wasn't there. No one was playing follow the leader, everything was from the heart, from 3 considerably different, individual perspectives.

For anyone who ever wanted to hear the heart and soul of the community verbalized, listen to this podcast. These guys are dedicated with the desire to get things to where they need to be. It's really a great honor to have you on board and working hard to convey our message. Thanks for the shout outs, the plugs, and most importantly recognizing The Prophet as the single greatest influence to the rebirth of the UMK3 community. Had I not met him 10 years ago, I never would have started doing this, this site wouldn't exist, I wouldn't know any of you, and Dreemer and I probably would have given up on UMK3 a long time ago. No videos, no guides, no passion for a great game.

Again, these guys represent what we all want and it's the result of extend amounts of effort. They know the score, and if you don't think you do, listen.

I still haven't listened to the entire thing yet; 3 kids and a pool party that gets rained out will do that to you; but I have to say, BIG ups to you guys for laying it on the line for everyone. While there are some discrepancies*, it is a very good listen so far!

* The P1/P2 difference/advantage has been in EVERY MK game since the beginning. It isn't what makes MKvDC a bad game, that aspect is barely noticeable. It's the online mode that makes that game horrible. It's the fact that, online, most moves are 100% safe and abusable and it makes characters like GL, Kahn, and Flash absolutely broken.

What you said about the 3D games being very generic fighters with MK skins is SO SPOT ON, it's not even funny. I did thoroughly enjoy MK Deception because of it being the first online MK game (sans mame)...but it wouldn't have been too bad if 9/10 characters didn't have an infinite lol

Can't wait to finish listening to it.

PS - Tim...while I love you man, I get so irritated at your absolute bias toward UMK3 and no other fighter. It's hard for me to listen to. When one of the guys said "Tekken isn't a bad game" and you just burst out laughing...wow lol ...Tekken is great, it's not MK, it's not SF, it is just plain fun. Again, don't take this as an attack! Your passion for the game is unmatched. <3

Haha, yeah I love a bunch of fighters, some that people can't even understand why I play them, but UMK3 to the Vs Series, 3rd Strike, CvS2, Alpha 3, hell I use to play Waku Waku 7. I only ever dabbled in Tekken and Soul Calibur through the years, I always wanted to get good at them but I couldn't. I also was a big fan of the Vampire series for a while but lost interest. I played some VF4 but couldn't play against anyone.

Its all good, bro, and we need to make sure we get you, as well as Matt and Mike on one of these soon too.

But let me explain....

But its not bias for UMK3, its bias towards the arcade MKs. MK2 is still my favorite MK game of all time, allbeit its nostalgia, but i dont play MK2 anymore. and if anything, I am 2d bias. I cannot stand 3d fighers. The only ones i ever played and like throughly were VF1, SC1 and Fighters Destiny on the N64. But when it comes to 2d fighters, I've played them all and i love playing them (just bought BlazBlue CS today). SF2 Hyper Fighter is my favorite SF of all time, and ST and 3s are very close. I *love* the VS series despite me sucking absolute ass in them (well pre MvC ones at least, i got a nasty Wolverine in COTA-XvSF) But i cannot stand the gameplay of just about every other 3D fighter i've played.

But i'll stop with that for now. if you ever wanna chat or what not, aim is always UMKStatic or you can PM for my cell # too. I respect you WAYYYY too much so thats why i feel like i need to explain myself lol.

but thanks <3

I getcha. It helps knowing where you are coming from. You probably hate MKvDC even more since you have to hold a button to sidestep LOL (I made that my run button)

Like you, MKII is still my favorite MK due to what it meant to me growing up...but when I play it now, I hate it for what it isn't lol

lol SS are just evil, even in MK4 where they were pretty useless. Also, the fact DCU was in the game really sold me on it before it came out. I LOOOOVE DCU, especially Supes, Bats, Joker and Green Lantern.

Wish Capcom would have made DCU vs Capcom tho!

yes! exactly....very well put.

There are things that we loved when we were kids that didnt age well, MK1 and MK2 are great examples lol

I have to agree with Tim. HF2 = favorite sf2. VST also my favorite. 3s I have t say is straight up THE best fighting game I have ever got into. UMK3 is still what brought me into the whole "scene" and into 2d fighters in general. I love umk3! Wish I had people in my damn area who didn't blow balls at it though =/

Signature quality stuff. I feel the same about umk3.

I played MKvDC the other night for the first time ever, I set it up classic MK style, with Run as the 3D button lol. Oh my God what a boring ass game.

I mean, I dunno how to explain it. Every round left me with an empty feeling. It was like I was playing a game that took place in the middle of outer space or something. It was so completely devoid of substance and interest. The characters still look dead, stale, and lifeless. Glossy dolls of destitution. They added things to this game, or modified existing things, that just, I don't understand why they weren't more prevalent in the previous games. The get up kick at the feet? I don't know how it works in this exactly, or if it's worth using, but it should have been in all the previous games (I think it or something like it was in one), so they could have developed it more, because it just looks like a very stock attempt at a 50/50 get up. You can cancel jump attacks? Great, but the jumping punch has got to be the worst thing I've ever seen. I didn't spend a lot of time playing it, I only used Raiden and Scorpion, but it was enough for me to not want to play it.

After about 14 matches I still couldn't tell if I had a back dash or not, and the normal dash was like a full cycle of 2 running steps that just stops. This isn't the first game to have a 3D button, but it was nearly unnecessary, as this game could have been entirely 2D playing field and still sold as many units. An entire dimension they could have gotten away without programming. It's definitely no Run button and to be honest, putting it in place of the Run button sort of made me hyper-project my feelings towards it. I felt like I insulted the Run button. The game is everything I expected and less.

Now, let me clarify why I am getting on Tim for his outward dislike for various games. I want to post it here so people who have been following this don't think I'm just being a dick to Tim, which I'm not!

It is 100% fine to not like a game, to even HATE a game and make that fact known. But, when you are one of the driving forces in the community and are trying to bring new people to play UMK3 (and old ones too), you can't alienate people who play the games you don't like by spewing hate or dislike at their game, then claiming "new old crack" to these potential players. You just slammed a game they love and expect them to check out the game you love. It just will not work. You just got to be careful with what you say in something as public as a stream or podcast. That's all I'm asking.

Finally finished listening to the podcast. Great stuff guys, over two hours of talking shop, I loved it.

Thanks for the shoutouts too ^_^

Summoning, they are only down on MK9 because we've been burned FOUR times already. I'll believe that it will be a good game when I play it. Not before.

This is why we offer MKII at tournaments. Can't throw a party without at least one bottle of diet. ;)
